Finding Our True Identity - Honey Dee

    Chapter 1: Who Am I?

Do you frequently ask yourself who you are or what your purpose is in life? If you do, you are not alone. It is important to discover your identity and answer the question that many of us ponder from time to time. You can also consult the Bible—a remarkable source with examples of events and accounts foretold.

Let us discover the answer to the above question. In Genesis 1:26, it is written, And God said let us make man in our image after our likeness. In this Scripture, two keywords stand out, image and likeness. Let us look at the word, image, which refers to a likeness or imitation of a person. The spirit of the Lord created each of us to be a representation of Him. Now let us examine the word, likeness, which refers to a copy or portrait or means to resemble. We can now answer the question, Who am I? I am a representation of the Lord. Does it surprise you that the Lord has made each of us to be a representation of Him? God has done an awesome thing by creating us in His image. The problem is that many people do not realize their identity is rooted in Christ. I must admit that before I found my identity in Christ, I did not know I was a representation of Him. He instills in us, love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. These characteristics are found in Galatians 5:22 and 23, we ought to display these qualities in our everyday lives by how we treat our loved ones and the people that we meet each day. These characteristics must be nurtured with the word of God. Satan can mislead an individual who does not know their identity and thinks that stealing, killing, doing drugs, rebelling, slaving, practicing racism, and lusting toward the same sex is okay; however, we know this is not Christ-like behavior. According to Genesis 3:1, Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which God had made. We can see how the devil tricked Eve into eating the fruit from the tree of good and evil. We need to understand that God made us unique in every way and for His glorification.

Romans 1:28 describes how they thought it foolish to acknowledge God. He abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should not be done. A refusal to keep the knowledge of God can lead to destruction on a greater scale. There are stories told in the Old Testament about deceit, lying, murder, jealousy, and homosexuality. We know about the account of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19. Please understand, however, this does not give us a license to take someone’s life into our hands or cause them harm. Therefore, let us look at a more recent example from our time; the law that was recently passed for same sex couples to be able to marry. Statistics from the National LGBTQ Task Force reveal that 3 to 8 percent of men and women are gay. Further, statistics from 2011 show that 3.8 percent of people are gay or transgender. The percentage of gay women is 1.1 and the percentage of gay men is 1.7. These statistics vary according to each country or state. Today, women are turning to women and men are turning to men to boldly announce their confused love for one another. Scripture explains why this has happened. We can reference a passage from Romans 1:24, Therefore, God gave them up to uncleanness through the lust of their own hearts to dishonor their own bodies between themselves. If we take a closer look at our society, we can see that it is heading down the same path of destruction as Sodom and Gomorrah. Romans 1:26–27 states that God gave them up to vile affection because even their women did change their natural use into that which is against nature. Likewise, instead of having sexual relations with women, men burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men because of this sin. They suffered within themselves the penalty they deserve. We clearly see these circumstances occurring today with some men, women, and children. Images of homosexuality are depicted in children’s cartoons and movies. John 3:17 states: "For God did not send
