    Introduction

I treasure your word in my heart, so that I may not sin against you. —Psalms 119:11, ESV

Like the Psalmist, you believe that the study of God’s Word is integral to spiritual health and nourishment. As your child matures, intellectually and spiritually, you find yourself looking for more accurate retellings of inspiring, Biblical narratives. Perhaps, sitting down at night to read a devotional with your child, you wonder if the Bible is too difficult for them to read or whether their current children’s Bible is too simplistic. What are they understanding? What can they apply? Are the selections meaningful and challenging? Is this children’s Bible good enough? For what am I looking?

If you have browsed children’s Bibles already, you might realize that some are too close to bedtime tales, reducing the Scriptures to fun—yet overly simplified—stories. Without accuracy or clarity, the tales may feel confusing or juvenile to your growing child. Other children’s Bibles may appear too cut-and-dry without the spiritual challenges that a more adult version may have.

This volume, The New Testament Bible Made Easy for Children, is the New Testament continuation of the series, The Story of God for His Children. Written for reading levels 7-12, this abridged version of the New Testament is dedicated to providing young readers with an easier to read, yet accurate version of the Bible. With a variety of narrative stories to more complex retellings of spiritual exhortations, this volume is sure to increase interest in God’s Word and encourage your child’s heart. With this Bible, your child will gain a sense of ownership and confidence to find the Truths of the Scriptures on their own.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. —Hebrews 11:12, ESV

Reading and sharing these Bible stories, you will not only have an opportunity to explore the wonderful Truths of God’s scriptures but also apply it to your life. As you read this volume, you will rediscover the simple Truths of Scripture. Not only will you become invested in your own spiritual journey, but you may also find yourself excited to read Scripture as well.

Moving forward in scriptural studies, have faith that your heartfelt prayers and the edification of Scriptures will change your life in ways you cannot imagine. Bring discussion of the Bible into everyday life and ask questions about what you have read. With prayer, exhortation, and spiritual challenges, you will mature in the sight of God and Man. May He who began a good work in you bring it to completion!

Chapter 1: The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John

    Prologue

    John 1:1-18

In the beginning was the Word. The Word was God. In the beginning, the Word was with God. All of creation was made with the Word, and without Him, nothing was created. In the Word was life, which is the light of man. In the darkness, the light shines, and the darkness could not conquer it.

A man named ‘John’ was sent from God. John was not the light. He came as a witness, to tell the truth about the light, so that all might believe through the Word.

John was preparing for the true light, which was coming into the world to light up the darkness. The light lived in the world He created, but still, the world did not recognize Him or welcome Him. However, to everyone who did receive Him, those who believed in His name were blessed and became the children of God. They were not born of blood or the will of the body nor the will of men, but of God.

The Word became a man and lived among us. We, His followers, have seen His glory, and so we have also witnessed the grace and truth of the only Son of the Father.

The witness for the Word, John, cried out, This was the man who I spoke about, saying, ‘He who is coming after me ranks above me because this man was before me’.

Through the Word’s fullness, we all have been given grace upon grace. Moses gave us the Law of God, but through Jesus Christ, we have been given grace and truth. No one has ever seen God, but the one true God, who sits at the Father’s side, has been made known.

    Elizabeth and Zechariah

    Luke 1:5-25

There was a priest named ‘Zechariah’, who was a priest from the tribe of Levi. His wife’s name was ‘Elizabeth’. They were both righteous people, following the laws of the Lord. However, they never had any children, and now they were both very old.

One day, it was Zechariah’s turn to serve as a priest before God. He was chosen by lots, as was tradition, to perform duties and burn incense at the temple of the Lord. As he entered, many people were praying outside in the courtyard at the hour of incense.

As he burned the incense inside on the altar of incense, an angel of
