किसी ने बताया नहीं था, पर बचपन में ही यह जान लिया था कि कविताओं में प्रेम का और प्रेम में कविताओं का बड़ा महत्व है. लिखने वाले कलम चलाते हुए कुदरत और क्रांति तक भी पहुंचे, पर ज्यादातर जिंदगियों में पद्य का आगमन बरास्ते प्रेम ही हुआ. होश संभालने के बाद मैंने जो पहली कविता लिखी, वह आधी-अधूरी प्रेम कविता ही थी. साहित्य का संभवत: सबसे लाडला विषय प्रेम ही है. चाहे फिर वो दोस्ती हो, इश्क़ हो या वात्सल्य हो।
