Slumbering History

But how do the Royal Family of Britain do it?

What is considered the best way to settle a newborn baby?

It is known that George V was very fond of his daughters Marie, Maud and Margaret. The Duke of York (later King George VI) slept with his eldest son while he was being born - something that served him well in all his subsequent years as king [1936-52].

But how did the rest of the family sleep during their first few weeks on earth? Perhaps Princess Diana knew best when she said that she always slept in the same room as William and Harry.

Changing times

Changing times have led to several changes in Royal sleeping habits. For example, the young Prince Charles was a notoriously bad sleeper during his babyhood (still something of a night owl). But, again, this opposes the image of the doting parent.

And even when he became Prince of Wales, he would often sleep in a separate bedroom from his wife. As a result, Princess Diana suffered from insomnia for many years and thought that her husband's nightly stumbling would prevent her from getting to sleep.
