As I begin to think about all of those I want to thank or acknowledge, I have to begin by thanking Jesus who inspired me to write this book. It is because of Him that I truly have life and can use it to help others. Also, I have to thank my parents who gave me life and taught me to be a determined woman (to say the least!!). I love you momma and daddy, thank you for your love for me. Thank you to Nneka Delacruz, Zalika Warren, Maryum Opa, and Sherry Ann Joseph. You truly were my support system over the years and helped me to remain close to God. Lastly, thank you to the many women and men who displayed the love of Christ to me. I am forever grateful.
Introduction
If you are reading this book, you already have an idea of what I’m about to speak about: Virginity. Yes, I am a virgin and it is because I have been waiting for my husband to find me. I have to be honest. This journey has not been an easy one, but it is one that I am willing to wait for. Why you may ask? As you read the book, I will explain why I decided to wait until marriage to have sex and what obstacles I have had to face while waiting. Let me start off by saying that the views I share in this book are not connected with any counseling organizations. Yes, I am a licensed professional counselor, but I am not writing a book about my therapeutic point of view, but about my spiritual life as a disciple of Jesus Christ. My hope is to encourage other singles who profess to be Christians or disciples of Jesus and those who may be searching for answers for their own lives.
As you know, we are sexual beings and women were created for procreation, so I still have the desire to have sex, but I do not act on it. No, I don’t masturbate either. I will get more into this as you read the book. I believe this is a topic that needs to be spoken about because it is one that the entertainment industry and the world
as a whole has taken ownership of and are leading many astray. God is the creator of sex and he created it to be between a husband and a wife. Some of you are going to think, She must think we are back in the stone ages or something? Her ideas are outdated and no longer relevant.
God, the creator of us all, would not have considered sex outside of marriage a sin if He did not have a good reason. (Gen 2:20-25)(1 Corinthians 6:12-20).
When you look at the world and you look at the high rate of STDs, the emotional weight that comes from soul ties
, and the breakdown of the family system, you will begin to understand the reasoning for why God wants us to wait. As you read this book, I will be sharing scriptures that help me to understand God’s view of sex and how these scriptures influence my decision to wait until marriage. Has this journey been easy? No! I am a 45 year-old virgin still waiting for my husband to come along! So, I want you to understand that this has not been an easy life to live. Living counterculture to this society and feeling like an anomaly whenever I share that I am a virgin has been difficult. Therefore, as you read the book, be prepared to follow me along my journey, which has been full of various emotions at times, but in all of this I have chosen to live this life to please Jesus. I believe that God knows better than I do or anyone else does. He created us, so it sounds like a good idea to follow the one who made me right? What do you think?
