GETTING STARTED
Welcome, the road to your New Vegan Lifestyle starts here. Veganism is somewhat dif- ferent than many diets because it is a way of life. While there are many reasons you may decide to walk this road, whether it is for animal protection, health, weight loss, environ- mental concerns and/or political/social concerns. Whatever your reasons may be, you can make the transition in a smooth and enjoyable manner. I usually suggest taking your time with the process and adding on favorites as you move toward your goal. It will help make the process feel less burdensome.
A great way to start is by upgrading your kitchen tools and appliances. In the chapter Veg- an Kitchen Essentials, I outline kitchen essentials, appliances, recipe helpers, shopping, and terms. Vegan kitchen essentials provide you with appliance must-haves, recipe help- ers every vegan should have and where to find them. Shopping and terms give more de- tailed information on what to look for and how you can obtain more information on your new food choices.
The chapters on dietary supplements and fruit-vegetable-grain benefits chart act as a guide to maintain the balance needed for health and vitality. You may or may not be famil- iar with some of the items mentioned in the chapter on dietary supplements, so again work closely with your grocer who may be more familiar with them.
