    A to Z Poetry - Fida Islaih

    Picture 1

    Part A

    Anticipation

    Anticipation builds up inside me

fills me up, filling up my day, too

yet I try not to think too much about it

    my expectations are high;

I’m happy during the good moments

    but really I’m disappointed

that my expectations of myself and the day aren’t met

Next time I’ll let go of those expectations

let it surprise me, it'll be better than I imagine,

    feeling genuine happiness.

    Afraid

So many emotions bottled in me

I want to tell someone everything

but I fear how things will go,

if I’ll get to talk to the one that understands

fearing i’ll be stuck in my breakdown

    I'm afraid of the response

of how I'll word my thoughts

    I'm afraid of hurting others,

    of hurting myself

    Full of sorrow and frustration

yet I'm a Muslim believing in God

Believing that He’ll help me through

because of my awareness and love for Him

    by His mercy

I make it through each turn and twist

    even though tears fall

and eyes blur for the day

He is always there, when others aren't

I just get closer to Him

with each tear, with each prayer.

    Arrival

    The sunrises are new arrivals

    reminding me to grow

    my comfort zone feels small

I say yes to what scares me

the excitement takes over my body

it feels like a new comfort.

    Angel

Everyone has their own guardian angel

    guiding us always

they are here to protect us from everything.

    Guardian angels are always there

    every step of the way

My heart should have been hurt

but I walked away without a scratch

I feel a sense of peace wash over me

as I know an angel was watching over me

    protecting my heart.
