Change Your Habits - MADILYN DITZA

    Introduction

Change your habits is the consequence of a set of specific needs that have arisen in society over the last decades. It is a project that arose from all the concerns that I have encountered throughout my life. I myself came to feel a little lost in a moment of weakness and helplessness. But, just as I succeeded, I trust that this book will help you to answer those elementary and vital questions.

In a world as competitive as the one we live in, understanding how habits work is essential if you want to live up to your responsibilities. The idea of this project is to guide you on the road to achieving your goals. It is essential that you want to be a highly productive person. If not, this content is not for you, I need you fully motivated to take on the challenge of a lifetime!

The content you will find in the following pages has a total and transforming power. Throughout the different chapters contained in Change your habits you will find recommendations, suggestions, tips and strategies more than relevant to change the course and take control of your life. What you are looking for is much more than surviving, breathing by inertia... no! What you want is to be successful, fulfilled, productive. To achieve your goals and purposes. Immersing yourself in the chapters of this project will help you only if you help yourself with commitment and focus.

Just as you will learn to recognize your bad habits and how they get in the way of your dreams, you will also be able to break them and replace them with elements that add value to your quest. I will show you how to do this and how to make these changes sustainable over time. It is not only about temporary solutions, it is up to you and your willpower to give a distinctive stamp to your days. You want to be successful, you want to be highly productive, you want to live a fulfilling life, and that's why you are here.

There are values and competencies that have been lost in time. Competencies that make a person more than an accumulation of bones and organs. Competencies that contribute significantly to reaching goals, to achieving objectives. Among these values I highlight, for example, willpower and discipline. Both concepts are developed quite carefully in this book, mainly because they are fundamental bases for personal growth.

Time... oh, time! How many minutes, how many hours, how many years we waste with an apathetic and wrong approach. We walk through life without realizing that it is the only opportunity we have to achieve our dreams and be happy.

We must use time wisely and realize that it is always the right time to do things right.

    Nelson Mandela.

I recognize time as the fundamental axis of any action. Not only is it one of the most important resources in the inventory, but it is also a painfully finite tool. We are not eternal, endless beings. Changing the chip on this thinking is something you will master by the end of Change Your Habits. I can assure you that, after reading the last sentence, you will be a totally new individual. You will be a highly productive and goal-oriented person.

Somewhere on the Internet I stumbled upon a phrase that is as simple as it is wonderful, but which contains within it a whole universe of wisdom:

The universe only allows you to access what you are ready for and fits your personal growth path.

There is nothing to discuss in the face of such an unquestionable truth. You have the power to create your own destiny, it is in your hands. The distracting elements, which weaken your willpower and your ability to focus, must be undone and replaced as soon as possible, if you want to reach the best version of yourself. That version that I want to see, where you are a free and fulfilled person, will come sooner rather than later if you pay attention to what I am telling you here from my experience and knowledge.

Issues such as willpower, neuroscience, good and bad habits, focus, discipline, motivation, are treated in this book with all the seriousness of the case. Starting from tangible examples, innovative concepts and empathy, because I know that taking the first step is always the hardest part of any change process. I was also in your position and decided to make a complete turnaround in my life.

You have nothing to fear. From now on, a journey begins from which you will not leave indifferent, because you will discover small and big things that you did not perceive because you were too worried about carrying the weight of those steel shackles called bad habits.

Before we begin, I would like to recommend that you take a few seconds to reflect on yourself. You have begun the climb to becoming the person you want to be. This is a decision that deserves applause, smiles and hugs. Welcome to the world of highly productive people.

Chapter 1: What is a Habit?

Your whole life is made up of actions. In most cases, these actions are performed in a specific context, without implying a systematic repetition. Everyday life is made up of a myriad of situations that lead us to make certain decisions and behave according to the demands of the moment. However, this reaction is not necessarily a learned behavior. Therein lies the difference between the reaction to a specific circumstance and the habits that shape your life.

Contrary to what most people understand, a habit is nothing more than a behavior learned through repetition. It is those actions, small or large, positive or negative, that make up your day-to-day life. Recognizing a habit is a fundamental exercise because it allows you to diagnose what you do and how you interact with what happens around you. Only through an effective diagnosis will you be able to recognize if you are closer to achieving your goals, or if there are actions in your routines that move you significantly away from what you have defined as your life purpose.

    Capitalizes each share

Once you learn to recognize that your habits have the potential to become resources, you will be able to redirect them towards that final flag that many call purpose. The idea is that every action has a reason for being, and this often happens without us being fully aware of it. In fact, by definition, a habit is nothing more than a behavior learned through constant repetition. You would be amazed to know that your brain has the almost infinite capacity to reprogram itself according to the eventualities that arise day after day.

The important thing is to know how to make the most of each of your actions. That is the difference between someone who just survives and someone who knows what his resources are and manages to capitalize on them in the direction of his goals. Your goals are your raison d'être, nobody wants to walk through the world without knowing what port they are heading towards, do they? It is essential that you channel it because only through this awareness you can be closer and closer to achieving your dreams.

The importance of having clear goals

Now that you are clear about what a habit is, and its definition, ask yourself the following question: is it worth losing the opportunity to achieve your goals? Certainly not. Asking yourself questions like this will help you a lot. I want you to consider each small action as a direct approach to what you are looking for. That's what it's all about, going into the game with things clear and recognizing that each new habit is a tool to find your way and do things better. It's worth approaching positive behaviors that shield that path, don't you think?

Identify your goal and work towards it

For example: a captain who does not know what port he is heading for, will find obstacles in every action, no matter how small. Remember that old and wonderful phrase:

No wind is favorable for those who do not know to which port they are heading.

This is a palpable and vital reality in the way you face your life. You don't want to be the captain who wanders and wanders the oceans without knowing where he wants to go, because it will be impossible for him to react in the best way when the storms come. A captain who does not know where he is going is a mere splinter on the high seas. He will be tossed about by circumstances without ever getting anywhere.

Why should I change my habits?

First of all, your habits are only useful to you if they bring you closer to your goals. A conscious and critically conducted self-assessment will allow you to identify those negative habits that, sooner rather than later, will plunge you into the dark bottom of a pit. These habits, by their nature,
