Beat Stress In 15 Minutes - Jennifer N. Smith
Introduction
Stress affects all of us in so many different ways, and it can hit us when we least expect it. Oftentimes, we become so used to stress that we do not even realize how bad it is until we begin to feel the effects of it. While it is normal to experience stress in our lives at some point, when the stress is experienced for a long period of time, it can begin to take a toll on not only our mental health but our physical health as well.
There are of course times when stress can be good for example, it can help you to learn a new skill or to meet that deadline, but experiencing stress over a long period of time is never good and needs to be controlled.
The good news is that there are so many different things that you can do to help you take control of the stress that you are facing in your day to day life no matter what the source of the stress is. In this book we are going to go over in detail steps that you can take to reduce the stress that you are dealing with each day.
You are going to learn how to handle the stress in your life so that it no longer controls you but you control it. You are going to finally be able to live that happy life that you
have always dreamed of. I am not going to lie to you and tell you that if you do the things in this book you will never have stress in your life again because we all know that would be a false statement.
What I will tell you is that by using the techniques you will learn in this book, you will be able to reduce the amount of stress that you are dealing with in your everyday life. By learning how to handle the big things in life that are causing you stress on a regular basis, you will also find that you are better equipped to deal with the minor stressors that show up occasionally.
Stress is accompanied by many symptoms, including tension, irritability, anger, nightmares, sadness or depression, crying, loss of appetite, headaches, trouble focusing, and even having trouble making decisions.
The problem is that many of these symptoms actually cause more stress in our lives because of the effects of the symptom. For example, if you are having nightmares and cannot sleep while not being able to focus you may not be able to get all of the things done each day that you need to get done. Not being able to get the things done that you need to get done causes more stress followed by more symptoms and so on.
In order to stop this vicious cycle, you need to take control of your life right now. You need to not put this off any longer and as you read through this book start implementing the techniques in your life. The information that you are going to learn in this book could easily be separated out into 10 different books which means you should not feel as if you need to make all of these changes all at once.
Take the chapters step by step and begin reducing your stress levels today.
Chapter 1: What Are the Sources of Your Stress? Can You Identify Them
STRESS CAN BE A VERY complicated problem and we know that it can cause very complicated issues in our lives. For this reason, it is very important for you to know what the sources of your stress are. Now we can sit back and say, Well, the source of my stress is my kids not minding,
or, It’s because of my partner,
but if we really take a look at it, chances are those are actually the effects of your stress and not the true cause.
Let’s take a deeper look into this. Our stress can be caused from several different sources, including: Environmental, social, physiological, organizational, psychological, or by significant events such as the loss of a loved one or even unemployment.
I want to take a deeper look at each of these so that we can really understand what each of them are so that as we go deeper into the book you will know which area you need to focus on the most.
The first area of stress is environmental this is any stress that has to do with your environment. Meaning that the environment around you is making demands on you and causing you stress. One example of this might be your home. If your home is not the way that you want it to be, this could be an environmental stressor. Other things that could cause you stress could be the lighting, changing your work shift, the air quality, the shifts in the wind can even be considered an environmental stressor, air pollution, and noise.
The second source of stress is social stress. All of us have faced some social stress at some point in our lives, and it is the stress that is caused from social interactions, relationships and simply day to day interaction with other people.
Organizational stress is an area that causes a lot of people issues in their lives. Now even though you might think that this has something to do with you being organized in your life, it does not, that actually is an environmental stressor. This source of stress is about the organizations that you are part of and is also known as occupational stress. Of course, we are all going to feel some level of stress in our lives when it comes to our jobs don’t get me wrong, but when the stress begins to affect the rest of our lives we need to take control of it. Often times when people are suffering from organizational stress or occupational stress, it is because they feel the leadership in the organization is failing, their workload has increased or they are in fear for their jobs.
The next area that
