About this ebook

Remember that little voice at the back of your head that whispers "No!" and "You can't do it!" whenever you want to try something new?

Remember how your brain says "Don't!" but your heart says "Do!" every time you want to follow your dreams?

Remember how your mind always reminds you of what you can't do and where you've failed in life in the past, instead of encouraging you in the path you have chosen for yourself?

Who is that?

Those voices, those feelings and those emotions – they are a part of you. To be more precise, they are the negative sides of you. They are a part of your inner negativity that stops you from almost anything you want to do in your life.

While your negative thoughts may want the best for you, the truth is, they are a hindrance. They stop you from following your dreams, from trying new things, and from living the life you want to live. If you can't master and control these negative thoughts, your life will undoubtedly remain tedious and incomplete.

This book is all about teaching you how to recognize and master your negative thoughts: not to blindly follow them, but to learn to question them instead.

  • How to understand the patterns of your personal negative thoughts;
  • The different types of negative thoughts and emotions you get;
  • How to challenge your negative side;
  • How to control the negative thoughts that come into your mind automatically and without notice;
  • How to mindfully consider your negative thoughts instead of blindly believing them;

    You Can Master Your Negative Thoughts - Jennifer N. Smith

    Introduction

    What do you think drives us?

    What makes us do what we do? What gives us the courage to follow our dreams?

    When you think about it, what holds us back? What is the invisible string that stops us from taking a risk, or from following our hearts? What is it that governs our life so that we cannot live our fullest?

    What makes us unique from the rest of the world?

    It is nothing but our thoughts and feelings that sets an individual apart from the rest of the population! It’s what we think and feel that makes us do what we want to do, or stop us from doing what we want to do.

    In most people, it is our negative thoughts and emotions that are more dominant. These are the thoughts that stop us from taking risks, doing something uncertain or adventurous; our negative thoughts are usually what stops us from following our dreams for the fear of failing. Unfortunately, we listen to our negative thoughts more than we listen to the encouraging ones coming from inside us.

    When we are paying more attention to our negative thoughts and emotions, we are only living half a life. By listening to our negative thoughts, we are being too cautious, too fearful and too apprehensive of doing anything. The more importance we give the negativity inside us, the less we can live life on our own terms.

    This book "You can Master your Thoughts: Get Rid of All the Negative Thoughts that Hold You Back, and Learn to Control them" is a guideline of mastering your negative thoughts. This book will, hopefully, teach you to ignore all the negative feelings in your mind and to master them, so that you learn to live life the way you want to. By mastering your thoughts, you can get rid of all the negative thinking that is holding you back and instead, focus more on your positive thoughts.

    Chapter 1

    Our Negative Thoughts and Emotions

    ––––––––

    We all try to live a positive life; we all try to be hopeful, enthusiastic and experimental in our lives. We try to follow our hearts and make the most of our time, taking whatever risk our heart tells us to.

    Unfortunately, it is the negativity in us that win most of the time. The little nagging voice inside our mind that discourages us to try something, whines about not being good enough for something, and stops us from pursuing something new – we listen to that negative voice more than we should. With some people, it becomes such a habit that we can’t even think about ignoring or evading our negative thought patterns. In fact, they became the main voices in our head, guiding and controlling us.

    This is certainly not right; actually, this is the opposite of how we should live our life. It is our negative thoughts that should be controlled, so that we can think and act freely.

    Our negative thoughts stop us from being happy, discourages us from living fully and halts positive emotions from going. These negative thoughts and emotions should be mastered, especially if we want to be happy in our life.

    However, before that, it is more important that we learn to identify the common negative thoughts that plague the most of us. Once we learn to identify and understand these negative emotions, we can start to master them ourselves.

    So, what are the different negative thoughts that torment our lives?

    Feeling Inadequate

    We all feel inadequate and inefficient at times, when we see someone who is more successful than us, richer than us, smarter than us or more attractive than us. Sometimes, we even feel adequate compared to a person who is just slightly better than us in one little aspect of life. A well-dressed person can make us feel adequate temporarily, or someone who is a good cook can make us feel inadequate in comparison.

    When we consider ourselves to be short of a particular quality compared to someone else, it doesn’t matter what else we are better at. A person might be honest and hardworking, but they can still feel insufficient when comparing themselves to a person who is a good speaker. A very talented person can consider themselves to be inadequate when in contact with someone taller and physically pleasing. There’s no limit to how we can feel inadequate when we start to compare ourselves to other people unfairly.

    How would you recognize these thoughts of inadequacy? It’s when your mind comes up with thoughts like:

    I wish I was more like that person.

    I may have worked hard in life to get where I am, but I will never be as popular as those people.

    Yes, I have money now, but I will have always come from a humble background. I don’t have anything to show for in my history like other people.

    No matter how great your life actually is, the feeling of inadequacy will never let you be truly happy until you can get
