    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to my husband David. He has sparked my interest in how to treat health problems naturally.

CHAPTER 1- WHAT ARE THE ADRENAL GLANDS AND WHAT DO THEY DO IN THE BODY?

Adrenal glands, also known as suprarenal glands, are part of our endocrine system. They interact with their endocrine counterparts, the hypothalamus and pituitary gland in the brain to keep our systems balanced and well regulated. As their Latin name ad renal would indicate, they are located over the kidney. Each adrenal gland sits atop each of our kidneys like a cap and is no larger than a walnut (about four to six centimeters long and weighing between 7 and 10 grams.) Our right adrenal gland is shaped like a little triangle while the left is crescent, or semi lunar, in shape. But don’t let their small size fool you. The adrenal glands are quite powerful and, in fact, we cannot live without them.

The adrenal glands are responsible for the production and secretion of about fifty different hormones that our bodies require to function properly every minute
