FROM THE AUTHOR

When I first met my husband Preston, he was proud to share all of his health tips that he had learned over the years. He was going to the gym regularly and eating all the right foods. At least, so he thought. He was proud to share all the nutrition tips he acquired over the years like his ‘healthy’ whole wheat bread, low-fat yogurt, vegetable margarines, sugar-free snacks, and bananas. These were his health foods, so you can imagine his frustration as one by one I told him the truth about all his health foods. As he switched from whole wheat bread to whole grain, low-fat yogurt to full fat, margarine to coconut oil or butter, bananas to berries, his interest in nutrition went from genuine interest to disbelief and eventually flat out exasperation. He’d gone from being fully confident he was living a healthy life to a child asking about everything, for fear it wasn’t what he’d been led to believe.

Sadly, this is all too common. We’ve been sold a bunch of lies about what is ‘healthy’ and what is not. It’s always comical when the list of super-foods magically appears on the market each year. It’s like avocados, blueberries, and pomegranates were suddenly discovered. Blueberries and pomegranates are great anti-oxidants. This wasn’t some new discovery; nevertheless it suddenly became a fad, and the food marketers took that simple truth and ran, and ran, until we had blueberry and pomegranate bubblegum and vodka—which, of course, totally misses the point of antioxidants. Still, we fall for the lies. Suddenly, we wonder how we ever survived before avocados, pomegranates, or Acai.

And just to make things even more confusing, about every 10 years or so, what was once good for us is now bad. Remember the high-carb, low-fat craze? Oops, that was wrong. It’s now low-carb, high-protein. And remember the four food groups? Equally divided into fours on a plate, and we were to eat as much meat and dairy as fruits and grains? Gone. Now it’s a pyramid that’s anything but equal.

Back in the days of Adam and Eve, a healthy diet was simple. Virtually everything in the garden was good for them. And in New Testament times, being overweight was rare, usually reserved for the rich and idle. Compare that to our modern diet of highly processed and refined foods. We’ve gotten too far away from God’s simple, perfect plan. I believe we are all created ‘healthy, by design’. Once we get back to God’s plan, our bodies will naturally begin to be healthier and shed excess weight.

But how do we live like this, given the abundance readily available with one call to Uber-eats? How do we go back to simple in a complicated world? What are we supposed to eat? What foods will nourish our bodies? What foods will help us lose weight? So many questions!!! But rest assured, my friend, the answer is in as much of what you eat as in why you eat what you eat. It’s your very relationship with food that needs to be examined. We overeat, we emotionally eat, we eat when we’re happy, sad, bored, stressed, idle, socializing, and the list goes on.

That’s why I wrote my first book, Weight Loss, God’s Way: The Proven 21-Day Weight Loss Devotional Bible Study, to help health-conscious women like you truly understand why you’ve struggled with your weight, and how God can and will set you free if you allow Him.

Whether you bought this book for the low-carbohydrate recipes, the meal plan, or to ‘up the challenge’, as you go through our Weight Loss, God’s Way devotion, our online Weight Loss, God’s Way 21-Day Challenge, or our upcoming Healthy Eating, God’s Way devotion, you’re about to embark on a health and faith journey that will change your life. INTRODUCTION

WHY THE WEIGHT LOSS, GOD’S WAY MEAL PLAN?

When I wrote my devotional book, Weight Loss, God’s Way: The Proven 21-Day Weight Loss Devotional Bible Study, I was on a mission to help people understand that losing weight was not just about eating less and moving more. There were intricate and deep-rooted patterns, behaviors, and habits that kept people stuck in their weight. More importantly, I wanted to show people how strengthening their relationship with God would help them lose weight permanently.

It was wonderful to hear people talk about how they strengthened their relationships with God while getting healthier and slimmer. They were finally starting to understand why they were doing what they were doing, and learning to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to help them stop. They were able to understand what was at the root of their emotional eating, and then submit the root causes to God. They were also able to understand that blaming, making excuses, and procrastinating were just signals pointing them to what was really stopping them from taking action.

Despite all of these incredible breakthroughs, one question kept coming up, over and over again—What should I eat? Even though people finally understood what was causing them to overeat and make other poor lifestyle choices, they were still confused about what they should eat to properly fuel their bodies while losing weight. In an industry where diet programs are a dime-a-dozen, I understand why something as simple as eating has become taboo, frustrating, and downright overwhelming.

Therefore, I developed this meal plan to
