    Foreword

When I was asked if I would be willing to help produce this book, a compilation of the very best and most popular of Cathy Morenzie’s blog posts from the last decade, I immediately jumped at the chance. Sure it meant reading through hundreds of blog posts to curate the select few that would make it into these pages, but having read some of Cathy’s books (from her popular and award-winning Healthy by Design series of weight loss devotionals) I was more than happy to learn all I could from her and, in turn, help you to do the same.

First and foremost, the goal of this book is to help women get healthy, both inside and out. The importance of spiritual and emotional health is clear to many of us. But when it comes to our physical health, sometimes we don’t see this as important and worth our time and effort because we assume it is much lower on the totem pole than overall spirituality. We may even think it shouldn’t be something a godly woman concerns herself with, so taking time to exercise and eat nutritious food doesn’t make it anywhere near our to-do list.

While we won’t get into this issue right now, the importance of taking care of our vessels will be addressed in this book. In fact, the first section of The Word on Weight Loss will address the spiritual reasons for why our own personal health should be a priority for each woman who seeks to live a godly and productive life.

First off, let’s see how Jesus sees us, each one of us, no exceptions.

Hebrews 12:1-2 NRSV: Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

Isaiah 53:5 NRSV: But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made him whole, and by his bruises we are healed.

What are some of the takeaways?

We are a joy to Jesus. Whatever weaknesses or failures we’ve experienced, He paid it all so we can be free from being controlled by any and every sin.

Have you ever encountered someone willing to do the right thing or help you in some way? How did that make you feel?

This weekend, my daughter is coming home from college to visit. Since we all tend to use her room for various things while she is away, it can become cluttered, but her younger brother uses it the most. Today I told him I would be cleaning up her room and if he wanted to do it together, that would be great.

His response was, I am planning on cleaning her room up and also her bathroom. He did this the last time she visited also, but I’d forgotten. It was such a relief to have him in my corner, helping me tidy the house, because I was cleaning the kitchen and other rooms. It made my heart glad and made me feel joyful, knowing my son had not only my back, but his sister’s as well.

When we, as children of God, want to help God out by becoming our best for Him and providing an example that others can look to as well, I bet it makes His heart glad also.

We can make needed changes; we simply must be willing. He took the pain through His stripes and bruises, and healed us.

Romans 8:11 NRSV: If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you…

We have the same Spirit and power dwelling in us that raised Jesus Himself from the grave and from the dead. We simply need to plug into that power. The hard work has been done. We must depend upon and rest in
