The Veil - Minal Arora
Rendezvous
Sacred Geometry
by Maarisha Chhajta
Looking back, she wondered through,
Love so deep and love so true,
I wish my life was only you.
But then I had, people around,
Who threatened to kill, if they found?
Kill that love, so deep in me,
I hid that love and let it be.
My love was weak, but it was pure,
All its pain I must endure,
For it can’t fight the huge its mite,
Hence, I must end it all tonight.
I hid this love, I hid my child,
The pain in me was never mild,
But I will close my eyes with this,
These moments of pain I shouldn’t miss,
This pain must forever be,
For this pain, is you in me!
Lifetimes will bring us back again,
and then I will transform the pain,
Love will bloom and forever shine,
I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine.
They met again in perfect space,
Stood again in loving embrace.
Filled with love were his blue eyes,
A promise to be, for his new wife.
To stay forever, never to part,
The journey together was meant to start.
Her life, and meaning, was only him,
Filled with joy up to the brim.
A life so whole and so complete,
A life where love chooses to meet.
The stars gazed and the moon blessed,
Each moment together was filled with zest.
Holding the hands, they walked the miles,
Promising forever with all the smiles.
Every day she looked at the sky,
Wondering along how blessed am I?
To find the man who loves me so,
Who brings me joy and how I glow!
And then they brought her warrior dead,
With all his wounds and how he bled.
She stood there filled with shock,
In moment she froze as hard as rock.
Life was gone with just one blink
Shattered she was and could not think.
I would neither cry,
nor I would weep
If they bring you back in the army jeep.
This was my promise to him but I,
Lost it all and did not try.
She blamed her warrior,
for making her weak
For numerous thoughts,
she could not speak.
The promises to keep,
And promises to last,
Are all lies,
For a shattered heart.
He broke his promise,
Left her in pain,
His constant thoughts,
made her insane.
She placed her life,
In her warrior dead,
Why did he come,
soaked in red,
Red was her dream,
Red was her start,
and the very red,
tore her apart.
Why me? Was her only plight,
What was it, she could not fight?
And then she vowed to know the why,
To understand and know the deeper ‘I’
Time then, brought her here,
To embrace life, to let go fear.
Tomorrow will bring a new sunshine,
I won’t crib, I won’t whine.
My warrior in me will sure arise,
And I will be more, a bit more wise!

nstead of a white scalloped neckline or a dramatic froth of translucent charmeuse, she touched the sleeve of a russet red gown, embellished with vintage golden embroidery and bequest jewels. Nicole looked like an enthralling beauty coming down the aisle, dressed exquisitely to charm.
She touched the hearts of all the guests with her innocent smile and deep alluring eyes. Grandeur were the arrangements for it was the youngest and brightest officers of the British Army to be wedded to the only and gorgeous daughter of the most opulent businessman of North Yorkshire. This was somewhere in the late 19th century.
Edward saw Nicole from the distant corner of the hall where he was busy having a conversation with his best man. Affection and pride together gleamed in his eyes as he saw how stunning she looked. The ball room went silent for it was a delight to watch Nicole as she nervously searched for someone familiar to help her feel more at ease while the sighs grew louder in her ears.
Edward quickly excused himself and walked towards her. His crisp white cuffs under his black tuxedo with a golden lion cufflink added to his effortless elegance as he offered his hands to the lady. She gracefully extended her delicate hands clad in red lace gloves, to accept the rescue offered by her man from the piercing yet appreciative eyes of their guests.
He pressed her hands lightly and bowed down, only making her even more shy and nervous. However, his sincere gaze and glittery eyes brought a kind of stillness around them. Everyone was watching them with bated breath. Just then he took out a big solitaire ring from his left pocket, kissed it lightly and slipped it in her ring finger, sealing it with another kiss. She had tears in her eyes as he got up to hold her. It was the embrace of reassurance.
Let me take all your tears away from you sweetheart. You shall always smile from now on. I am the custodian of your happiness,
he said.
There was again a sigh in the audience, as if his words had touched the hearts of many. She accepted his offer smiling through her wet eyes, holding a diamond studded ring which was waiting to be worn by her man. She had held it all through. Nicole was so shy that she quickly hugged him, to avoid any further intense moments of expression of love and warmth.
Though she wanted this scene to quickly pass since it was difficult for her to handle attention, she also knew that this was the most enchanting moment of her life. She had manifested all that she had ever dreamt of. Her life had turned out to be the perfect fairy tale story in which the handsome prince charming eventually wins the princess and then, happily ever after
.
Oh no! please don’t take him away. Please don’t. He cannot leave me alone. This can’t be true. He will wake up any moment. He is just teasing me. No, dad, please stop them.
Nicole was murmuring as she woke up from her dream flustered and sweating. Her father who was sitting on the Victorian armchair in the right side of her bed, got up to calm her down.
Where is Edward, dad? Where is he? I want to go to him. I want to see him dad.
she cried out attempting to get off the bed while her father tried to make her stay put in her bed.
Edward is no more with us my child. You know it. You were there at his funeral, weren’t you?
he said, hiding his tears.
No, but I was with him in the Ball room. He had put a ring on my hand and promised to be the custodian of my happiness dad. He cannot die. He must be just hiding. He cannot leave me alone. How will I live without him?
saying this she started to sob profusely.
Just then her two little daughters came running in lacy frocks with their cheeks red and her eyes fretful. Their mother, since the last few days had done nothing but sleep and cry.
Mummy,
said Angela as she jumped into her mother’s lap to hide her face in her satin night dress. Her younger daughter Camella also tugged herself into Nicole’s sheet to hold her tight.
Whenever Nicole slept, either her wedding scene got restated in her mind or the day when they brought Edward home. She was standing in the kitchen wearing a pastel green Victorian cotton gown. Her little girls were playing in the kitchen garden with pebbles and sand. She was making chicken soup for them while humming melodious old songs.
Between humming and moving her body, Nicole felt slightly dizzy, as if some unknown pain had suddenly emerged near her heart. She lost her balance for a moment and just then the doorbell rang. It was the back door which led to the kitchen and guests never entered from there. Edward!
she shouted in ecstasy as she flung open the door, expecting it to be her husband.
Two young Army Officers greeted her. She looked at them blankly as they removed their caps and bowed their heads, upon their eyes meeting hers. Just as she traced their hands down to look at what they were holding, she froze. It was long wooden sledge on which Edward was lying. His body revealed the ravages of weapons and the effects of the passage of time. Aghast, Nicole fell on the ground and her eyes didn’t blink for
