I’ve been a constant fan of the author Sarah WaterRaven ever since I read her first book “Detective Docherty and the Demon’s Tears” (which you should definitely read, if you haven’t). One character from that series is forever etched into my heart as one of my favourite characters of all time. And while I thoroughly love the characters and the world which she creates, the biggest factor which keeps forcing me to recommend her works to others is her incredible prowess to weave words and tell stories that reach into your soul and capture it.
There are many writers who put out good books but this talent of Sarah WaterRaven to construct narratives that transcend the paper they were printed on and grow and grow until they develop into something much grander than mere words on paper is much rarer.

And this collection of personal poetry is no different from the magic her beautiful creatures cast in her fantasy books. Most readers know that there are two types of books. The first type includes works that are so good that you scan through the entire thing in one seating. The second type includes works that you can’t connect with and take a long time to finish. But there is a third type of book - a work which is so moving, so great that while you love it so much that you wish to go through it with no breaks, the emotions it conjures up in you force you to take a break and ponder about what an otherworldly thing you just experienced. This was how this book was for me - I read and re-read and re-read repeatedly. I re-read many lines. And I re-read the entirety of many poems. I took breaks to process my sentiments, then I went back and re-read it again.

This collection of poetry is so personal, so intimate that it choked me up many times and moved me to tears many times more. Starting from the Foreword and concluding with the image of a Phoenix, like which the writer rose stronger from the fires of her life - everything was so beautiful - sometimes haunting, occasionally sad, constantly thought-provoking. The words felt so much more than words, and each one made me feel things I didn’t expect to experience. I was also astonished by the way Sarah was able to produce such magical works with each verse telling a tale, each word put together so perfectly.

The structure of the books and the manner in which the individual works were arranged in sections was also great.

The themes of many of the poetry were extremely painful and some of it was definitely not comfortable to go through but I agree with what the author says in the Foreword “by not talking about the painful and unpleasant things in life, we pretend that they do not exist”.

I feel privileged for having been able to get a little peek into her life and hope that this book might reach into the hands of some people who need to read this - either to realize that they aren’t alone in their struggle through life or to realize that we must empathize with our fellow beings (both human and animals), be kind to one another and lend each other support through our rotten times.
As a feminist and a lover of animals, this collection of poetry was one of the best things I’ve ever read.

I applaud and salute Sarah WaterRaven for the courage she has shown by publishing this work and letting the world glance into parts of her life, and the bravery of how she went through numerous hardships of her life. And I wish her the best of luck for her future and hope that for the entirety of the rest of her life will be filled with happiness, comfort, and love.

Forward

There was a delay in the publication of this collection of poetry. The truth is, poetry is personal. I thought if I printed my poems, I would expose myself to the world.

However, I’ve since I realized that by not talking about the painful and unpleasant things in life, we pretend that they do not exist, and, as Albert Einstein said:

The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.

With that in mind, I decided it was important for people to know that they are not alone. Sadly, many of us experience
