    THE FIRST TESTING

    OF JOB’S FAITH

The setting is a land, flat with grazing grass on it, for 200 miles in any direction. From the middle of this farm country home, it’s the largest piece of land owned by one person in all the area. Within this the 200 miles, known by its fenced or barbed wire protection of its animal kingdom, trees, brush, lush green grass, fields for planting a multitude of foods and plenty of room for sheep, cattle, horses to roam around as if in a wild land they owned themselves and, yes, plenty of help to maintain this vast complex of a business owned and run by one individual and his family.

Each parcel of this property is equally marked with fence and, of course, a fence door to open so that the particular groups of animals can be herded from one grazing area to another. It’s estimated to have in numbers, 10,000 sheep, 8,000 horses, 10,000 cattle, and of course, it takes a great number of folks to run all this, 200 herdsmen, 100 planters/pickers, and 50 cooks and cleaners.

With this number of employees, one must maintain quarters, for these 350 full time employees so beyond the main house are rows of housing for all those who wish to live full time on the grounds and being as generous as this individual, all take advantage of this offer as he gives room and board as part of their payroll. He is known throughout for his generosity and fairness to not only those employed by him, but those in surrounding towns and farms. He has a reputation as a godly man. In addition to all this spoken of him, he also has spurned a larger family between him and his Mrs., ten all together, with seven sons and three daughters, all living in their own houses on the land, either together or on their own. For at a certain age, which he the father would say, they had the right to choose a plot of land and build a house of their liking as long as it was within a short distance from the main complex. He was a home grown family man and insisted on being together much of their daily lives as each was a responsible member in this work force on the land.

The main house consists of 10,000 square feet of living space on a main floor and the top floor, as when their children began to arrive, he wanted plenty of room for them to grow in a family atmosphere. It was furnished to the best of everything as his Mrs. says, No detail was left untouched. Not only this, but it was maintained as all the other buildings and living quarters and the land was spotless, as he has a saying throughout his home, the homes of his children, the quarters for those working for him, Cleanliness is as close a partner as godliness!

Yes, Job was such a godly man. He even had a small church on the property where he and any who wanted to, could go in and meditate or pray or just simply sit to consider their journey through life. Being the leader of causes not only in his own family but throughout the entire area he was known by all to be a devout praying man. So not only did he fear God, he also felt he knew God on a personal basis and therefore each morning, and never missing, he would arise at sunlight, dress and, regardless of weather conditions, would walk to this church sanctuary to pray for his children, his Mrs., his employees, asking God to not only forgive his sins of the past day, but to forgive those of his own blood and those who worked diligently on his vast holdings!

Now Job, being as human as others, wasn’t sinless, but few, even in his own family, could find a blot of wrong in Job, as he had shown love to all, nor did he ever speak an ill word of another, nor did he swear even a slight word, nor did he drink any alcohol even on holy days in sacrificing to God. He would have all fast to those who would partake. He didn’t smoke and he kept a well-balanced diet of food, filling his day mixing work and pleasure in a 24 hour period.

He was admired and respected by all those who knew him, be it family, employees, neighbors, or those who had heard of his kindness and generosity. One could say in all candor, Job was a blessed man and he was aware of this gift from God. Now each and every year as far back as one could recall, Job had a good habit in that each child’s birthday was an event, whoever’s birthday it was, had the joy of having all the family to their home to celebrate such an event. These birthday get-togethers were not just a small party; they lasted sometimes a full weekend and in that time they would dance, sing, chit chat, eat and drink till one was full to the maximum. This was a yearly occasion and it was never taken for granted. It was just another birthday as all ten of Job’s children looked in anticipation to this joyous event held in their honor each year as it rolled around. At each party, Job, the Mrs., and their children would gather in a circle, holding hands tightly as Job would once again pray for each one, not knowing if any had sinned and not gone to God asking for forgiveness. What an occasion they were having twelve parties or almost one a month, depending on birthdates, two could be held in one month!

All were envious of Job’s wealth and family ties, but all knew God had blessed him for no one as far as the eye could see, the ear could hear, the horse could run to, was as godly as Job. His advice was as nuggets of gold as when he spoke all knew it was sound in its meaning, for Job was not one to waste words or time. He made every hour and day have value within it, for again he knew the shortness of a lifetime!

Job trusted God in all areas of his being, be it family, work, fun. His life, you could say in all honesty, was engineered by God himself. For Job had that kind of 24/365 faithfulness, and yes, Job was well aware of this gift of abundance and he on a daily basis would say to God, Thank you, but would also show it in his daily journey.

Yet one day, unbeknownst to the world of humanity, Job’s life came up in the heavenly realms of where God abodes. angels would come and go as they, each one, would bow low before God, asking to have Him, the Lord, examine their lives be it good or evil, and if a mustard seed of evil, to wash it away be it pride, guilt, hatred, jealousy, envy. No angel wanted to serve God lest they be perfectly pure in heart and God would do as they ask looking within each one, their motives or intentions of whatever it was that might sway their conscience about.

They all knew God was and is perfect and He could by His power look into inner workings of whomever approached Him. It was in this day that the angel of hell, Satan, who had come from the bowels of earth, approached God about Job, as he was extremely envious of this man, Job. Satan would do whatever it took to rob, buy, steal, trade for a soul to drag to his pit of hell for eternity.

As Satan approached God, the Lord could see within Satan he had a trick up his sleeve, so God asked Satan these words all angels within hearing range could hear, Where have you come from and what’s your purpose of being here? God already knew long in advance the answer to both questions, but He was inclined to listen to Satan, thereby affirming to God that He had made a wise decision in throwing Satan and his angelic followers out of His heavenly home and down into the lava flowing mid-earth.

Yet Satan crawled out of his pit and made it back to where he was created by God. Satan replies in envy, I am on earth, where You placed me and being there I am able to view all the going on from one end to another 360º and 365 days a year.

At that, the Lord God spoke to Satan asking him, In all your viewing, have you given notice to my servant Job as I consider him a man of faith and honor as he will flee evil as one would a beehive and he maintains his loyalty to Me by fearing the power I have, yet the love I have for him?

Again God knew Satan’s purpose in being there and was fully prepared for the challenge about to be presented to Him by Satan’s lips of evil. You have blessed Job to no end and he knows it comes from You. You protect him, shower him with gifts, smother him with love, bless his health and wealth, but I say to you, he loves You and leads a godly life because of his blessings. You remove that and watch how he curses You for taking away what You alone gave him!

God didn’t flinch, for He knew well ahead of Satan’s motive for being there and said with sternness in His voice, The test is on as I am going to allow you to remove his worldly blessings, but I warn you, don’t you dare touch his body!

At that, Satan turned away from the Lord and walking away he whispered so God could hear, You watch!

Naturally Job was totally unaware that his future days of living were being weighed over in the heavenly realms of God Almighty. So he went about his life unsuspecting of any changes in the far distant future. He simply continued being what he had always been, a good provider, a good husband and father, a man known to respect others and would give to any who would ask of him, a giver of wisdom to all who would ask his advice, a charitable man and most importantly, a man of God who had given his soul without hesitation to the Lord God the creator of all that there is!

Job would rise each morning, like clockwork and never missing, even if an illness arrived at his front door, he would go to his small church and there alone in total privacy and quietness at the dawn of a day, pray with earnest to his God and Maker, then breakfast with those who would sit at his and the Mrs.’s table, which were usually his children and foreman on his massive ranch.

By 8:00 a.m. he was out riding his horse to make sure all was the way he had directed it to be. Lunch was during weekdays, either a stop at one of his children’s home or a sack lunch prepared by his Mrs., now going on forty plus years of matrimony. By late afternoon, he would arrive back at the main house, take a quick shower, re-dress for the evening, and have dinner with those who could find the time to dine with him and his Mrs. and many a time they ate alone, simply because of taking care of such a magnitude of wealth in land, animals, and employees, be they farmhands, cooks, cleaners, or herdsmen.

Of course, never did they have any regrets eating alone, for it was a rare time at that! Time had moved on and months had passed since that heavenly/hellish meeting to discuss the future trials of Job. But Satan planned with meticulous workings. He was an angel who knew the inner workings of the human spirit and he was absolutely convinced Job would curse God when he got through destroying all he held close to his heart.

For if God thought Satan, would remove all He gave Job, for doing nothing wrong, why would he continue praising God and believing in Him? The fact is, Satan had used this tactic on many a soul in past eons of time and it never failed to work before, so why would it fail this time. It won’t, Satan said to himself. Time had moved on, Satan planned and God waited, knowing full well the outcome as He does of all of His creation for with God there are no surprises, no accidents, no mishaps, no misjudgments, no failures, for God alone knows the past, present, future of all of His creation, be it a billion years ago, this moment, or a billion years from this moment. It is all under control, but like so many in heaven, on earth, in hell, think God is unaware of some dark evil deed and or some great good work done.

He sees it all as He planned. Nothing is hidden from the all-seeing God of Creation, yet Satan as wise as he is, thinks he is able to maneuver Job into what he is about to do. Destroying him financially and he will curse God and run from Him in any way possible! The date, time, now was set in the cement of Satan’s heart, Win this and I will prove I can outdo, outsmart God, was Satan’s goal, regardless of the magnitude of pain and suffering it will cast upon a multiple number of humanity, so Satan was about to set it all in motion. A tweak here, a tweak there, an adjustment here or there had to be expected before this great test of a man’s faith and fate was to be set in motion.
