    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

First and foremost, I thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He walks with me and talks and with me and guides me every day. A special thank you goes to Jo and Len who were instrumental in guiding me toward the Lord in the mid-60’s. They have been with me off and on throughout this spiritual journey to dig deeper into God’s Word. I would also like to thank my professors at Trinity College of Florida who challenged me to critically examine the application of Scripture to daily living.

    MY AMAZING JOURNEY

All the poems were written to highlight main thoughts in each chapter and encourage people to read the chapter and examine its meaning for their own lives. They were adapted from my own study of the Life Application Study Bible (NLT) by Tyndale House Publisher’s, Inc. Although they are not always poetically correct, they are the thoughts and words God gave me in my journey into a deeper understanding of my relationship with Him. It is my prayer that each reader will be challenged to read the Bible daily in his or her own journey into a deeper understanding of the Word of God. It continues to be an amazing journey for me as I am proceeding to do the entire Bible. Having completed the Pentateuch, the Historical Books, and the Wisdom Books, I hope to continue with the other two subgroups of the Old Testament (Major and Minor Prophets) and then complete the New Testament. I hope each of you will join me and enjoy this amazing journey. When people obey God, they find peace with Him, with others, and with themselves. It is my prayer that each of you may find that peace in your life as you study God’s Word.

    THE PENTATEUCH

The first five books of the Bible (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy) span the time-period from creation to Moses death and Israel’s preparation to enter the Promised Land (also known as the five books of Moses or books of the law).

    THE HISTORICAL BOOKS

These twelve books deal with the history of Israel. They cover approximately 800 years with the rule of Judges and kings. They tell of disobedience and disbelief.

    THE WISDOM BOOKS

These five books (also known as the poetical books) deal with the human heart. As you read each book listen for the experiential feelings that go into each book.

    GENESIS

    CHAPTER 1

    Genesis in chapter one

    God, the world had begun

    and the day became light

    and darkness he called night.

    As evening passed away

    it marked the second day.

God formed the sea by his own hand

and called the dry ground land.

God made the sun, the moon and the stars

to mark the seasons, days, and years.

On the fifth day He created fish and fowl that fly

to fill the waters and the sky.

Then He created animals, man, and woman

and in His image was the man.

    CHAPTER 2

    The seventh day God blessed

He called it Holy and a day of rest.

God formed Adam from the dust of the ground.

Then He planted a garden all around.

God placed the man in the Garden of Eden

but warned of fruit not to be eaten.

Then He said, It’s not good that man be alone.

so He made woman from Adam’s bone.

They were created perfect for each other

and neither was superior to the other.

    CHAPTER 3

Satan tempted Eve and caused her to sin.

She caused Adam to give in.

Don’t listen to Satan during strife

for God has a better plan for your life.

    Sin fills us with guilt

and we forget what God has built.

Be glad when guilt is there

for it makes us more aware

of our need to change our ways

to walk with God through all our days.

Adam and Eve brought sin to the human race

and God’s punishment they had to face.

    We must remember every day

that God’s way is better than our way.

    CHAPTER 4

Eve gave birth to Cain and Abel.

    This became an interesting fable.

God accepted the gift of one,

but sin over the other won.

    Cain, his brother killed

so his life with sin was filled.

What we give to God must be from the heart

if we confess, repent, and do our part

to spread God’s Word throughout the earth

so others too may have new birth.

    CHAPTER 5

    Genealogies are found throughout

    the Bible without a doubt.

Here we find those to whom God gave

long life spans before the grave.

    Genealogies point out the focus

of God’s love for each of us.

As time went on sin reared its ugly head

and into sin many were led.

    CHAPTER 6

    Evil exploded throughout the land.

But there was one who walked the sand

    in faithful obedience and love

    for his heavenly Father above.

Noah was that faithful one God was to save

He sent the flood and all others to a watery grave.

Noah whole heartedly loved and obeyed

but that does not mean he never strayed.

Noah was told to build a boat

and make sure that it would float.

In the boat he was to bring alive

a pair of each living creature to survive.

    CHAPTER 7

    NOAH

Noah did not live in sin.

He did all God asked of him.

For his family he built a large boat

to keep them and all creatures afloat.

God told him to bring aboard a pair of every animal

domestic and wild creatures, large and small.

Two by two they came aboard

just as commanded by the Lord.

God told Noah to shut the door

and leave the rest to God and fear no more.

    THE RAINS CAME

For forty days God sent rain

before He allowed it to drain.

    The water rose twenty-two feet

    above the highest mountain peak.

    God destroyed the human race

because of sin they did not face.

    CHAPTER 8

Noah was patient and stayed in the boat.

For over a year they were afloat.

When the land was dry, the dove stayed away.

The Lord told Noah to leave and be on his way.

Noah built an altar to demonstrate his love

for his Heavenly Father up above.

Upon the altar animals and birds were laid

and a sacrifice to the Lord was made.

Now God reminds us that there is a reason

he gave us planting and harvest for every season.

He continues to remind the human race

that we must meet him face to face.

    CHAPTER 9

Noah stepped out upon the earth

and God told him of human worth.

He told why murder is so wrong,

for we are not on this earth for long.

There is a rainbow in the sky

    just to remind us why

God made us an eternal promise

not to make a flood earth’s demise.

Noah drank too much wine and inside he went

where he lay naked in his tent.

Which shows us even Godly people sin

when evil is allowed to exist within

our families, friends, and those we love

and we forget our God above.

    CHAPTER 10

These are the blood lines of Noah’s sons

and the nations from which they come.

Japheth’s descendants became a seafaring clan

who settled in Europe and its surrounding land

    Shem’s descendants were called Semites

    and Ham’s were called Canaanites.

Each clan had its’ own identity, language, and territories

each developed into many interesting stories.

    CHAPTER 11

    The people in this story

    built themselves a tower.

But did not give God the glory

    or consider all His power.

The history of the people here

led to Abram and Sarai’s life.

It was not one of fear,

but one of faith in-spite-of strife.

    CHAPTER 12

When God called Abram to move out

he did so without a doubt.

    Abram regularly built altars

to remind him not to falter.

Altars built of stone and sod

    symbolized his communion with God.

Then a famine struck the land.

Things began to get out of hand.

Abram asked Sarai to tell a lie

because he was afraid he would die.

Abram lost faith in God’s protection

    and Pharaoh ordered his ejection.

    CHAPTER 13

    Abram traveled throughout the land

and with nephew Lot worked hand in hand

until disputes broke out among the men.

Then Lot choose land to the east of them.

Lot settled in a place near Sodom.

This ultimately led to gloom and doom

for people there lived in constant sin

a battle for him was about to begin.

Abram was rich with livestock, silver, and gold

and by the Lord he was told

Look as far as you can see…

This land is yours as you walk with me.

    CHAPTER 14

War broke out among the kings

and Lot was captured in the fight.

When Abram heard about these things

he took his men and attacked at night.

    Now the enemies were shaken

    and during that attack

Abram brought back all that was taken

and Lot too was brought back.

Lot’s for everything portrayed his greed

and cost him freedom and enjoyment.

He had more than he could ever need

    yet he was not content.

    Abram followed accepted tradition

when he gave one-tenth of goods recovered,

but would not accept the one condition

to worship a god the king had discovered.

The king of Sodom an ungodly man

and Abram did not want the focus

to be on this ungodly human

but rather on the God who loves us.

    CHAPTER 15

Abram wanted his wife a son to conceive

so God pointed Abram’s eye to the sky

and promised that if he would believe

he would have a son before his time to die.

    Abram’s descendants would be enslaved

for four generations then return to their land.

And at the right time they would be saved

by the mercy and grace of God’s
