About this ebook

The prophet Ezekiel (told in first person) went through many struggles like those of the world were living in today. The parables of Jesus (in poetry) teach us how to love all Gods children in this world, and Veronicas Veil shows how the compassion of God can lead us to greater compassion for others.

The Prophet, the Parables, and Veronica’S Veil - Mary Heyn

    The Musings of God’s Messenger

    Chapter 1

    The Call

My brothers call me Ezekiel, but many call me mad. I lie here in the thick reeds on the banks of the Chebar River grieving for my God (who seems to have abandoned us), my dear Israel, and my beloved countrymen. I am like a statue, having lain here on my left side for over half a year. The whole weight of the House of Israel is on me. I don’t know if I will ever be able to move again. It all started with the great God of my ancestors. It was the thirtieth year, the fifth year of exile for our beloved king Jehoiakim.

I was not born a prophet of the God of Israel, although I am of the priestly class. I lived outside the walls of Jerusalem but my heart was with our beloved king Jehoiakim and those living in exile with him. It was a lovely and sunny autumn day when I suddenly saw a black cloud appear in the north surrounded by the brilliant light of a great fire with flashing lightning. A cool damp wind came up that shook my bones. I was terrified! I do not tire of telling what I saw. Four animals of human form appeared within the fire. I trembled as they approached me. They each had four wings and four faces with human arms under the wings. Each one had a shining wheel with a rim full of eyes. A glorious throne above these creatures held a being of human form, but gleaming with great splendor. I fell on my face and heard someone speaking.

The voice caused me to stand up, then sent me to the people of Israel with a strong message. I felt the weight of persistent sin and stubborn rebellion. The voice told me to speak to them whether they would listen or not, but what was I to say? It was then that a hand offered me a scroll written on both sides and the voice told me to eat it. It tasted sweet, but made my stomach sick. Then I was lifted and carried away to the exiles living at Tel Abib by the River Chebar, the very ones I loved and had been interceding for.

There, at the riverside, the Lord made of me a sentinel to warn the people I love of their sin and what was to come.
