    Book Overview

    Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn tells the story of Nick and Amy Dunne and their volatile relationship. The early years of Amy and Nick’s marriage are happy ones, but when the euphoria of new love wears off and they began acting like their true selves, and lose their jobs, their marriage turns sour.

    When Nick gets word from his sister that their mother is dying of cancer, he decides to move back to his hometown in Missouri to help care for her. Amy tries to fit in, but she feels out of place in Missouri. Amy and Nick fight more often and grow further apart. Nick has an affair with one of his students at the university where he teaches journalism. Amy finds out about the affair and decides that Nick should be punished. She puts together an elaborate plan to frame Nick for her murder.

    After Amy disappears, Nick faces frequent interrogation from the police. Nick does an impromptu interview where he talks about how much he loves Amy and wants her to come home. It is an act. He realizes Amy is trying to frame him and he wants to lure her out of hiding.

    Meanwhile, Amy was robbed of all her money by two residents in the rural cabins where she is hiding. She calls her old boyfriend
