The Moment
The moment I cried for the first time, the world knew I was alive. The moment I shared my first word, the world knew I was able to communicate. And the moment I took my first step, the world knew I was on my way to independence.
So many moments fill our lives, so many incredible events and actions, so many turning points and firsts, and we remember so many—some with great detail, some with just a smile of fondness, but we remember.
Even our childhood memories of moments seem to stay fast in our minds. We can recall our favorite toys, the TV shows we watched in black and white, and the first tree we climbed. Each memory is a moment in time, a moment we can share. We can use color and words to express the awesomeness of the events that etch a place in our consciousnesses.
As we grow, the moments of wonder occur further apart—the time seems to increase between moments of glory and bliss. The course of our journey takes us to more sedate places, where we can reflect and appreciate the footprints we have made. This is not to say that moments of incredible joy and happiness do not occur later in life. In fact, as we get older, we tend to accept more easily the things that make us happy, the things that brighten our moments. We give youth back to the young, but keep enough of it in our hearts to brighten our smiles and welcome the day. Watching a child go through their own moments is now a gift we can experience.
A moment is a marker, a reference. It is also a break in time, a bridge to a peaceful place, or a breath needed to
