Weekdays and Polygons - M. K. Lee
Finding our place to belong doesn't come easy for all of us. There are all sorts of reasons for that; geographical, familial, personal, and so many others. Sometimes we can think we've found that place only to realise a few years later that it was just a temporary refuge. Other times it feels like everyone else around us has found their place, but we're still out there trudging the road by ourselves. Everyone's journey is different, and while social media flashes images of perfect lives in our faces, it can be easy to believe that not only are we doing it alone, but that we are doing it wrong.
We aren't.
Everyone really is going at their own pace, discovering things about themselves and the world around them all the time. These poems are a reflection of that, with some drawn from my own experiences and others borrowed from those around me. Or imagined; after all, sometimes the places we feel most at home are those in our imaginations. A little escapism is good, I think; for the soul, for our well-being, and even just for fun (yes; fun is still allowed).
Wherever you are on your journey in life, I hope you have the best people around you, and that your belief in yourself is true and strong. You can do this; to your deadline, meeting your own needs, however you choose to get there. May your path be smooth instead of bumpy, and if it isn't, I hope there is something good to drink (and eat) to hand! It's all worth it; you really do deserve it all.
Be well.
