A Night Home Alone

Eva made her way to the living room, it was almost time for her favorite program to start. 

She placed the box of Pizza on the table and stretched herself on the couch. 

It was her one night of freedom, where Eva could do anything she wanted to do. A normal twenty-year-old would have been at a party or throwing her own party but all she needed was some peace and quiet. 

Eva grew up in a strict household, and she barely had time to socialize with her friends and if things couldn’t get any worse, when her older brother became sick and she was forced to join a local college. 

She did get a chance to live in school for a semester, but changed her mind after she came to the realization that she was better at home than at school. 

Unfortunately for her, coming back home meant that she had to conform to her parent’s orders and that meant that she was to be in the house at ten o’clock. They did however change the time for her when it came to the exam seasons to 10:30 p.m.

Eva was used to her parent’s iron clad parenting techniques that she didn’t mind when she lost friends because of it.  

The irony about her situation was the fact that her parents gave her the freedom to do anything that she wanted to do when she was in the house, but they didn’t think that she was mature enough to be independent. 

Okay, am home alone…., so am going the movie that I can’t watch with my parents Eva said to herself as she scrolled through the television’s catalogue. 

Eva made her way to the door, after she heard a knock. She wasn’t shocked that there was a person knocking at  that time of the night. 

Eva assumed that it was probably one of her brother’s friends as they were always in the house. The rules he followed were different from hers due to his near death experience.

For some reason, their parents wanted him to live his life to the maximum, and even though that did not entail leaving the house when he pleased, he was encouraged to make friends. 

A few of his rules applied to her, but Eva never paid attention to the fact that his were a bit lenient. To her, she barely had friends and even though she went out, she would be back at the house because she was tired and bored at the party. 

Hey, 

The person started as soon as she opened the door. 

At that point, Eva wasn’t sure whether she wanted to shut the door on his face or let him in. 

He is not here! But I will let him know that you were…. 

Actually, am here to see you! the person continued. 

Why? What do you need from me...? 

Eva please, can I come in… 

Eva opened the door wider and let him walk in. She was trying her level best to be calm and collected but even she had to admit that it wasn’t an easy thing to do. 

Okay, what do you want Rian? she said once the two were in the living room. 

Aaaaaw! I love this movie…. Can we watch it together? 

At this point, Eva felt like screaming, Rian was her brother’s best friend and also the guy who had broken her heart. 

He was the chairman of the football team and was the most popular guy in the school. Rian was her first love who ended up breaking her heart and toying with her emotions.

The two started becoming close when her brother became sick, and he became the person she could talk to in the midst of the situation.

However, Rian started seeing other people and played the blame game when he got caught. Apparently, the reason why he cheated was because his girlfriend wasn’t allowed to go out and party. 

Things became worse, when her brother confronted him about it which resulted with her breaking her heart, and ended the friendship that he had created with her brother instead of fighting for her love. 

Rian and her brother had recently made up but Eva couldn’t forgive and forget the fact that he portrayed her as a crash that went too far to the rest of the school. 

It took her a few years to get that brand off her and Eva wasn’t ready to let him slide. 

So each time she saw him in the house, Eva locked herself in the room or went out to the library. The good thing about the situation was that her brother never pressured her and even promised that he had her back if the need arose. 

What do you want? 

I called your brother and he told me that you were home alone, so with his permission, I decided to come and keep you company... 

You decided! And with his permission?? I am going to kill him, right after you leave…. 

Actually about that…. 

Eva knew Rian too well and the grin that was on his face annoyed her because she knew that he had planned something and whatever it was meant that she couldn’t chase him out. 

WHAT? WHY ARE YOU HERE?!?! she shouted. 

Rian woke up and made his way to her, he took a seat on the couch that was next to her and wiped the grin that was on his face. He stared straight into her eyes and then smiled. 

I wanted to talk to you…...! 

Well there is nothing for us to discuss so… please leave! she was trying her best to control her temper and that was a good sign for the both of them.
