Dionis Fernandez, I was born and raised in Santiago, Dominican Republic. I moved to the USA in the year 1997 and in 2002 I joined the US. Army. I have been proudly serving in the Army most of my adult life. I am a father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Chapter 1: Welcome Home…

February 13, 2015: Gingerbread Man stares from the corner of Devereaux St down the street towards Tackawanna St, where Yesenia and her children are welcoming her husband Ray from a year and a month long deployment to the Middle East, this deployment marks the 5th military deployment overseas to enemy territory for Ray. Gingerbread Man: That fucking Ray will pay for what he has done! Who the fuck does he thinks he is? That can come and go as he pleases and screw with my life? That mother fucker has done it for the last time, always leaving and coming back for the past 10 years. How can Yesenia be so stupid and believe his lies and run back to him always leaving me like I’m a dirty dog, she knows that i care for her! She is always playing with my emotions, how can she not see that she is everything to me? I’m so sick of their shit! i fucking hate him and he will pay for this! What makes him think that he can come and steal my woman and the children? He is nobody! He will pay and you too Yesenia for falling for his bullshit. Gingerbread leaves in a hurry as Ray turns and looks at him while speaking to his wife Yesenia and pointing to the corner where the Gingerbread man was standing.

Yesi, Amor (love) what’s up with the Gingerbread Man? Is he, still day dreaming with you? Laughing out loud! That man will never learn you need to stop being so nice to him or this Shit will get out of control one day! I’m going to get a restraining order! Says Ray to his wife, Yesenia! Really Ray, there is no need for all of that. He is not going to do anything and besides I have to treat him nice and with respect he is a patient at the hospital and we can’t deny treatment!" Replied Yesenia!

Ray then says laughing out loud I can’t even go to the corner store without him creeping around. He is funny as shit but it’s uncomfortable. You remember last time when he cussed me out and said that I was fucked up for leaving you and the kids and coming back like shit never happen. I’m telling you, you got to be careful people misunderstand kindness and he is obsessed with you! Yes babe I remember! answered Yesenia while laughing. But you have to admit it was pretty funny! He always came around asking if I needed the lawn to be mowed for a few bucks! I guess he needed money Ray laughing says to his wife; Shit! He probably went through the garbage too, hoping to see if you through away your underwear’s so he can smell them or maybe even take them home to make a soup or tea out of them! You just got to be careful hun, is all I’m saying.

Yesenia then says "Ray I didn’t want to tell you anything while you were gone but Gingerbread Man once asked me ‘What do you see in him? He is not good for you! He is always leaving you and the kids! Yesi you deserved someone better. Yes, I don’t have much to offer but I can change my life, find a job and be there for you and your children! I can be the man you deserve!’I was dumb found and told him that I see my whole life in you and with you and that despite of all things that we have been through you are my one and true love. He looked at me like he wanted to strangle the hell out of me and just walked away! Ray hugs his wife whom he had not seen in almost 14 months and says Yesi, you are the love of my life and not Gingerbread man or anyone can keep you away from me. I’m done with the Army at the end of the year!, I will not reenlist I want to stay home and be home as much as possible and enjoy more time with you and the gang. Now let’s get inside and eat I’m hungry!"

Jay gives his father bro hug and says Can we please get inside the house, the food is getting cold! I’m starving! How was the Flight, I got your picture with the guy basically sleeping over you! Ray then laughs and says That guy was knocked out and snoring liked a lion! I’m glad to be home too man! Did you see Elliot and Isaiah in the back seat; they were looking at me like I was going to get swallow at any moment! Alex’s Jeep can be heard from a block away! And as he is pulling into the home, he screams…. Glad to have you home old man! I can’t wait for you to see Rose, she is so big! Ray smiles as he hears his second oldest son Alex pulling into the drive way and says I can’t wait to see her man! How is work! I can’t wait to see what you have done since I left!

Joe, Ray’s second youngest son says I can’t wait to go bike riding and hunting, and camping and away from here for a few days. Then he looks toward the corner where the Gingerbread man was standing and laughing out loud says Dang it Dad he is back creeping! Ray laughs and says Joe, get me the paintball gun I’m going to fix him right now, I just got here and he already acting all weird! Yesenia looks at Ray and says: Leave that man alone! You didn’t get tired of walking around with a weapon for a whole year! Art the youngest son be heard from the back laughing as he said OOO, dad you in trouble with mami already and you just got here! Ray laughing! And hugging all of them together says Come here little boy! How you been! Dang are you and Joe racing to see who gets taller! Ya’ll are going be wearing my uniform and boots soon, if you two don’t stop!

Where are Nicole and Bella? Asked Ray as it appears that only the boys cared to wait for him outside with their mother. Yesenia says to Ray while hugging him and pushing the boys away from him She has been up since 7am waiting for you to arrive! She is inside the house finishing setting the table while Bella is turning the living room into disaster area! The Family walks into the house and past the living room and down to the dining room to finally have dinner as a family. Nicole runs and hugs her father and almost crying, hugs her mother too and in a happy and almost sad voice says: No more sad phone calls, no more waiting endlessly for the phone to ring with no luck, no more praying to God Dad; hoping that you are well and alive because you are here! No more impatience when the phone rings and finger crossing. Dad we missed you!"

The weight of the world has been lifted from all of them! Jay, Alex, Joe, Art and Nicole are seating in the table waiting for their parents to take a seat and start eating! Everything appears to be fine and everyone is enjoying their meals, Alex informs his father that his wife Ann and his daughter Rose are on the way! Jay tells his father that their Uncle Manuel and his wife Chris and their son Evan are on their way! After dinner Yesenia and Ray inform their children that they will be heading to the bedroom to get out of his uniform and to take a shower before the rest of the family arrives! 30 minutes later as the family is seating in the living room and talking about what has happen in the past year, the door bell rings and Alex opens the door, his wife Ann and their 2 year old daughter Rose arrives, and from the back Manuel can be heard yelling Alex we here, leave the door open!

Ray says hi to Ann and carries his granddaughter Rose! OMG Ann how you been? How is work? Ann answered I am doing pretty well! Yesenia got me a job with her at the hospital! I just got out of work and picked up Rose from my mother’s home! And there it goes Que lo que? (What’s UP Man?) Can be heard from the door as Manuel walks right in with his wife Chris and their son Evan! Evan cannot contain himself or his ADHD and runs in the house directly to his uncle and the first thing he says is…. ‘How is it going loco?" With the biggest smile in the world on his face and super happy to see his uncle after a year! Ray hugs Evan and shakes his brother’s hand, followed by a hug and says hi to Chris!

Glad to have you home finally! We all missed you very much! There wasn’t one day that Evan didn’t ask for you and wanted me to call you man! Says Manuel to Ray! The family continues to celebrate Ray’s arrival from overseas and for the next 2 hours everything appears to be normal until, Art, Joe and Evan, come racing down from the basement and screaming that some dark shadow was lurking behind the back yard, Evan is scared of Gingerbread Man, it doesn’t matter where he sees him, the moment he sees Gingerbread Man the first thing he does is hide behind his father and yells Cuco…Cuco is the Spanish boogie man! After the kids ran inside the house scared out for their lives Jay says "Don’t ya’ll worried I got it!
