    Chapter 1

Evelyn had a lot on her mind as the phone was ringing. She didn’t have time for this. Hello. The operator said she had Mellony on the line for her.

Just wonderful, she thought. Now what was going to be said on the phone would have the party line talking for weeks. Evie hated the phone because of this. She had to take a deep breath and tell the operator to hang up. Okay, Genivieve, please give us some privacy. Mel sighed on the other end. She could already tell her call wasn’t wanted. So she started right in on her reason for calling.

Look, Evie, I just want to tell you that Uncle Barney is still making Eve feel self-conscious about her bust, and he needs to knock it off!

Now it was Evie’s turn to sigh. Her sister was always calling with advice about her kids, her husband, especially about her husband, and Evie was very tired of it. What do you want me to do, sister? If Mary can’t stop him, how am I supposed to? He thinks he’s being funny and has been doing it since she started to develop. I have big boobs, so it stands to reason my daughter will have big boobs!

Eve was the oldest child of Evelyn and Daniel. By the time she reached puberty, her bust was a forty DD, and with her small frame, they looked enormous! She started walking around with her arms wrapped around her, which only served to call attention to them! She hated them and hated the stares of any male in her general area. She would often comment that she wanted to cut them off! Aunt Mel had even bigger breasts and always took for the girl.

Oh, kid, she can’t go on like this. I thought when she got married she would stop. But now it seems to be worse and stupid. Barney thinks he’s funny, and he’s not. I’d like to tell Mary to get rid of the jerk, but she doesn’t listen to me any more than you do!

Don’t go there, Mel. I don’t want to hear what you think of my husband any more than Mary does.

Well, both my sisters are living with men who are making their lives miserable.
