    Blurb:

Angel Knox’s life was busy, but boring. Taking care of her sick mother, dealing with a brother who was a total ass, and not to mention a co-worker who was all hands when it came to her, Angel. She was so not prepared for the giant creatures that took control of her life. Could Angel accept Zorn and Sander’s stone loving or should she drop everything and run?

Zorn and Sander were partners in everything except control of their family or clan as some individuals liked to call them. They’re kind were the protectors of the human species from others that would take advantage of their ignorance of the different species that really walked their world, Earth.

Being driven by an unknown force they find the one that was made just for them, but her heritage stood in the way of their joining. One thing Zorn was good at was control. Seizing their woman, Zorn and Sander tried to lay down the law to her, but little did he know when it came to her happiness, they would do anything, even go against his own father’s warnings.

    Chapter One

The night was quiet just as he liked. The creature stretched his aching bones now that he was able to move, the sun sinking beyond the distant horizon. Looking to right his partner and friend jumped down from his pedestal scanning the area around them.

We should move on. We’ve been here in the city to long. The humans will notice us if we stay. His black eyes met his and he snorted.

Most of the humans don’t even look up now a days. We’ll be fine for another few weeks. Check with Blue and see when our quarters will be ready and have them send our belongings here also. I have a feeling we will be staying here for a while. Zorn jumped down onto the church balcony. At six foot four the small porch barely held the two of them.

You feel it to, don’t you? Sander asked, turning to stare out at the city once more.

Yes, we’re supposed to be here. I don’t know why, but... he snarled. I hate this not knowing. He jumped up and over the balcony railing. His eight foot wingspan stretched out as he jumped off the building and flew toward the West part of the small town of Winona, scanning for whatever that was keeping them there.

Do you think she’s here? Sander yelled from his position above him while their clan spread out around them. Zorn and Sander’s clan was one of the largest, even though all of their clan were not in this small city in Minnesota at this minute.

He frowned and glanced up at Sanders. I hadn’t really given it any consideration. A human could be their mate, but it was rare and the only way it was possible if she was somehow a decedent from long ago. Zorn landed on top of an office building and watched the city life below. Somewhere down there could be his and Sander’s woman. The thought she might be in trouble had his stomach muscles in knots.

Was her need was so strong it was pulling at them both to stay there? He glanced at his partner next to him to see Sanders already staring at him. If she’s here we’ll find her and if anyone threatens what is ours, they’ll pay. Human or not, no one touches what is destined to be ours. Sanders snarled and turned once more to look down below.

"Only one female will be destined to be yours and your partner. In our way of life, you must first find your partner first, before destiny will allow you to find the one that will hold your hearts. Remember my son, the first year after finding your partner the need to find your woman will become fierce. But if she is in danger that demand will sometimes come early. Once you find her, she must be protected and guarded always. With our aggressive nature there will be others of our kind that won’t hesitate to try and steal what is yours." His father’s words rang in his head as a reminder.

Has it been a year already Sander? Zorn asked and scanned the buildings around him till he spotted Hen.  The male smiled at him and nodded, but Zorn could hear snarl that came from him. Even from this distance Zorn knew not to trust him.

Out of everyone in their clan, Sander had informed him of Han’s connection to the Dark Clan, his cousin’s clan. Yes, they would be watching Han closely over the next few weeks.

Do not worry about him. I have my brother, Mat watching him and no. We are close, four weeks shy of a year, Sander’s said with a little bite to it.

If this sensation was their woman, then they needed to find her soon. Something was wrong. He jumped off the building and moved a little closer to ground cloaking himself as he went. Zorn hated the idea of shifting into a human, but if it was necessary, he would. The only problem with shifting was he only had three hours in human body before the change was upon him again.

Three hours a day from what Zorn had learned when he started practicing with his gifts. Only Sander, his fathers, and mother knew of his gifts. Each gargoyle was born with a gift, but some with a few more if they were powerful enough which usually indicated who would have their own clan.

Already he and Sander had agreed on a local estate with plenty of room to spread out. They just had to wait for the closing. He flew over a small park doing a double take. People were dressed in costumes. Sander what is the date? Are we close to the human’s Halloween? Zorn asked, knowing his partner heard him.

Two days away. You really should keep up on things? Sander’s grin turned to a frown as he landed on the ground a few feet away from the party. What are you doing?

It’s a Halloween party we can walk around. Maybe we’ll hear something. He tucked his wings under his skin hiding them. His tail, skin color and facial differences would have to be his costume. The black leather pants he wore worked well also.

Sander followed his lead, wearing black jeans walking beside him as they skirted around the outer perimeter of the gathering, until they turned in the opposite direction. That is when it hit him, they were not alone. About two hundred feet away from him and Sander a demon moved between the humans, talking, and smiling, but all the time keeping a close eye on them.

"If there is one there are more warn the others, Zorn sent to his partner through their private path. It was well known that demons attached themselves to humans that were as dark as they were evil. It seems the humans know him. He’s been here a while, hold back and watch. Have team one, follow him when he leaves," he said, nodding to people while he worked the crowd.

    * * *

Angel Knox leaned against the post and watched her new boss move around the room. It was the first time she had met him in person. Usually, her correspondence was either done by email or the phone.

She shivered remembering the kiss he had placed on her cheek earlier that evening when he’d introduced himself. He was tall, but he smelled like something rotten when his breath drifted towards you. As soon as Angel could escape, she would leave the party he had thrown for the company. He even had demanded that everyone dress in the theme of Halloween.

Thank god, Angel still had the tavern wrench costume from her last party, but she did hate showing so much cleavage at a work event, even if her boss liked it. One more reason to escape, she mumbled, heading towards the food table. She’d be stupid not to take advantage of spread that was laid out.

The new owner of Shag had to be loaded with money. Lamb, ribs, steak, shrimp, even lobster along with all the sides dishes you could think of. Angel grabbed a plate and stared to pile on the food, hopping she would be able to put the first plate in her car for her mother.

I hope you’ll take a plate to your mother. How is she doing? her boss said behind her, his hand resting low on her hip. His breath so rancid she prayed not to lose her stomach.

Thank you sir and she is trying to cope. Angel stepped away from him and smiled. Will you be coming into the office to work soon? she asked, picking up a glass of punch and taking a drink.

No, I work from home. You could say I’m a bit of a recluse. Is there a reason I need to come in? Is someone bothering you? her boss looked up and slid to her side. If you excuse me, I need to talk to someone. Her boss stepped around her and headed towards the back of the room where two men she hadn’t seen before stood.

Both had to be close to seven feet tall and each one built like a linebacker. Angel smiled, their costume was amazing always a collector of dragons and gargoyles she could appreciate their makeup. "Now to get out of here before...Kramer,"

"The costume fits you totally. You should wear something like this to work Angel. I mean we all know you spread your legs for this promotion. I’m really thinking I need a taste soon," he squeezed her ass and she automatically elbowed him in the ribs.

Keep your fucking hands off me or you’ll lose them, she snarled and spun around leaving the asshole grabbing his stomach. Angel was tired. If it wasn’t her creepy boss giving her mixed signals, it was Kramer, the head manager in the office touching her.

Then there was the fact her mother was dying of cancer. She scanned the parking lot making sure no one was around as she made her way to the car. Twice this week alone Angel had almost broke down in front of her mother, but she had made it to her room before letting loose.

Sure, Angel had two sisters and a brother, but not one of them had offered to help their mother or her, hiding away only calling once a week. Worthless pieces of shit, Angel whispered, unlocking the doors of her car.

Just for you momma, Angel placed the food onto the floor of her car and turned to shut the door but stopped as the two gargoyle men stood behind her. Can I help you with something? Up close Angel never felt so small. At five foot six she wasn’t tiny but compared to these men Angel was small. Do I know you?

They both stared at here for a few seconds, before the one with the scar on his cheek stepped forward. My name is Zorn. This is my partner Sander. We both wanted to make sure you were okay. Back there we noticed that man and you. Did he hurt you?

No, her gaze drifted to the right to see her boss and Kramer staring at her from across the parking lot. Excuse me I have to go. She hurried around her car as the two men turned facing her boss. Angel was not staying to see what happened.

With her hand shaking, Angel stuck the key into her Kia Sorrento and threw it into gear. It was time for her to find another job, this was just not worth it. Angel pulled out of the parking lot and headed towards her home.

If it wasn’t for the fact, she loved her home, Angel would have moved long ago. Finding the A-frame house had been a blessing. Sure, it had needed some work, but the view looking over the Mississippi River was breath taking.

Another great advantage was the fact they were the only ones on the small bluff. She loved waking up to deer in her front yard and her mom enjoyed watching the water traffic go by for hours.

Angel glanced in the rearview mirror but saw nothing. She pulled onto the highway and turned up the radio. Slowly, she started to relax. The smell of the food filled the car and her stomach grumbled. Tonight, her mother would eat lobster and she’d have the prime rib. She just hoped tonight whatever had been walking around her house last night would not be there again. The creature had been huge by the shadow almost like that of a bear, maybe a black bear Angel had
