Phantoms of Christmas Passion - Trinity Blacio

    Chapter One

Toney stared at the big run-down ranch she had inherited from her grandfather and sighed. Grandfather, I so wish you were here to great me. We could have had a blast fixing this place up together, she whispered her words being carried off in the cold wind, but loud enough for the taxi driver to hear them.

Did you say something miss? he asked as he put her luggage onto the porch and smiled up at her.

She laughed and handed him the twenty Toni had pulled out earlier for the tip. No, just talking to myself, doing some Christmas wishing, she explained going back to the car to help unload the groceries she had picked up on the way there.

So, are you moving here for good? he asked, and she knew he was flirting a little, but Toni was not even ready for that, plus there was no spark and the next time she found a man there would be a spark between them.

Yea, this is my new home until I decided what to do next. Thank you again for helping me, she told him pulling out her key to the place. Please let the power be on.

The old key slid into the lock with ease and the heavy-duty wood door opened without a problem. A musty smell rose up as she entered the hallway as she reached for the light switch and prayed.

Yes! she yelled, and almost jumped up remembering the guy there. Thank you again. I can carry the rest of the stuff in. You have a nice holiday. She said, watching as the man frowned, but nodded going to his car getting into his car and taking off.

She was alone at last, and Toni had to admit she was a little excited about exploring her new home and to see what surprises her grandfather had left for her.

The house was warm as she carried her luggage into the hallway, before going and grabbing the groceries taking them to the kitchen. It was huge the kitchen and from she could tell there were new patio doors that went out onto a newer porch. I love it Gramps. You always knew I loved sitting outside listening to nature. Just too bad I didn’t listen to you about Hank though. She snorted. Guess I got one of your bad habits stubborn as you were, she sighed a single tear rolled down her cheek and she wiped it away refusing to start balling again.

Spinning around she went back to the porch grabbing the last three bags of the groceries. The chilly wind blew her hair as she stepped into the house and shutting the door with her foot. Toni went to take the last of her bags into the kitchen but stopped placing the bags on the floor and going back to the door, making sure the door was locked up tight. She’d be damn if anyone including Hank would come barging into her home. Even though she doubted he’d even think of her.

She had wasted six years on him while he’d been using her, believing she would inherit a nice lump sum of money when her grandfather had passed on. Toni had seen his true colors the day her grandfather’s will had been read. She could still hear his furious words when they had gotten home.

‘I can’t believe that old fart left most of his money to the Cancer Society. You’re his last survivor and all you get is a run-down ranch. God, I’ve wasted seven years. Well, no more.’ With those cruel words he had packed his belongings and left. It didn’t take long for her to find out he had stolen the money in her savings account, charged up all her credit cards, and never paid the rent for the past three months, leaving her homeless and broke just in time for Christmas.

There will be no Christmas this year, she mumbled as she put grocery bags onto the kitchen counter and headed back to the entryway. The rest of her furniture would be arriving anytime she hoped. At least she would have her bed tonight.

She glanced out the small window seeing that the snow had started, and she smiled. It was one things Toni loved as did her grandfather was a white Christmas. Well, it looks like we are getting a white Christmas Gramps, she whispered, still not believing she was in western Wyoming.

Grabbing onto her suitcases she headed up the stairs in search of the master bedroom. Her boots clicked on the wooden staircase as she moved up into the long hallway. She knew the house used wells for water, and with all the snow and rain she wouldn’t have to worry about the water line right now, unless the pipes froze and broke. Tony peeked into the first doorway and smiled at the old nursery. Maybe one day, she whispered in her head.

The next door opened with a gentle touch with her foot. What she wasn’t expecting was the size of the room. It was massive and off to the right side was an old fashion king-size bed with the plastic still on it. Toni smiled moving to the bed placing her bags on it, before turning slowly around. A small stone fireplace was on one wall and then there were two sliding glass doors that led out to a balcony.

This place is amazing Gramps and love the new bed, but I think I’m going to get lost in such a big one, she laughed. Glad I brought my blankets and such with me in case the truck with my stuff doesn’t show up.

Toni moved to the other side of the room, opening the door. A large claw-footed bathtub stood at the far end of the bathroom. It would need to be cleaned out, but she loved it. The toilet looked as if her grandfather had replaced the whole thing as some of the stickers were still on the tank part of the toilet. Does it flush? she whispered and pushed the handle. Yep, she was indeed
