Chapter One
The scent of summer always made Lanny Colors relax but not today as she drove out of Magic, New Mexico. Her friend Lacey stood up on the hill overlooking the city, covering her tracks so no one or a certain two alpha males would see her leave.
Her store was all closed up for the next week while Lanny made a trip home. She needed to speak with her mom and see her baby. It had been too long since she had held her in her arms. She glanced in the rearview mirror and smiled, seeing a rainbow over the cliff that Lacey stood on. The only one in Magic who knew what she really was or what she was not, human.
Nava and Elf weren’t the only ones who had run-ins with the nutcases at GSP. She smiled remembering her father and his brothers going after them four years ago. They had made a big mistake screwing with the wrong family when they had tried to acquire Lanny and her mother.
Oh, they knew her mother and she were shifters. How they found out, she didn’t know. But their facts were a little screwed up, thinking they were wolves when actually they were what fantasies were made up of, unicorns.
Yea, and how are two of the toughest men around going to deal with a mate as a damn unicorn?
she grumbled. Then, Lanny remembered her mother was also in the same boat when she had met her fathers. There was no way her fathers could be considered wimps.
Lanny frowned. Is it such a good idea to tell Dad and Father about Landon and Alastar? Hmm... Mom first,
she mumbled, reaching down and blaring the eighties music on her radio, the wind whipping her hair around as much as it could since it was back in a braid.
Two hours, thirty-five minutes later, Lanny pulled into the gas station that was right outside of her town. The small town of Mogul was only about ten more minutes. She needed to gas up and grab something to drink.
She opened her door, getting ready to go inside when she heard Lacey’s ring tone and knew that wasn’t good at all. What’s wrong?
she asked, closing the door of her car and headed inside while the guy filled her car up.
"They are looking, both of them, and they are pissed. So far, they haven’t come here, but Frost keeps giving me looks. It won’t take them long to figure out I helped you get out of town without them knowing,"
Great, the big lugs stand out in front of my shop, don’t say a word, but when I leave, they have a hairy fit. Idiots. Coffee, double cream to go, please,
she ordered, leaning against the counter.
"Not to worry, it would seem Calamity Jane found out what was going on and is helping us. I guess Flask and she are getting into it again, something about Landon saying something to Flask that he needed to control her more. Well, that was the wrong thing to say. Anyway, she’s been wreaking havoc for the last few hours."
When you see her, tell her I owe her one. I just need a day or two. Let’s hope my dad and father won’t demand to see Landon and Alastar; that is all I need.
Lanny paid for her coffee and gas, heading outside to the car.
"Are you bringing Tessy back with you? I really think she would love it here, and I know she’d be safe. Crap. Got to go, Frost is heading back in here." The phone disconnected before Lanny could tell her about her plans.
She had been gone for over a year, but every day she had called, facetimed with her baby girl. Lanny might have had a child in high school, but she’d be damn if she’d be sorry for it. If it was one thing Lanny knew for sure that was that Tessy was part of her, the best part.
With the father not part of Tessy’s life, it had been easy to get him to sign over all rights. Tessy was five years old, and she couldn’t wait to enroll her in the elementary school in Magic.
Throwing her purse in the car, Lanny turned at the sound of motorcycles as they pulled into the gas station, hitting the other side of the pumps. At once, Lanny could see who it was and snarled. Of course, she would run into the asshole of the group before she even got to her parents’ home.
Hoping like hell the asshole didn’t see her, Lanny got into her car and started to close the door but was stopped. Fuck,
she growled and looked up to see, Zadock smiling down at her.
Weren’t you going to say hello, little lady?
he asked and leaned down like he was going to try and kiss her, but she didn’t give him a chance. With one great big push, he stumbled back enough for her to slam the door and lock it.
Fuck you, Zadock. Stay the hell away from me,
she yelled, starting her car and taking off, leaving him behind, glaring at her. Lanny was so not in the mood to play with the asshole, and she didn’t have time. She had a feeling her stubborn mates would find her before the night was out if they were already going crazy looking for her, and it had only been a few hours since she’d left town.
Lanny pushed the button on her car phone, calling her mom, needing to warn her father and dad what she had done. Even though they weren’t alphas, they did control the biker group with an iron fist. She smiled and thought of Doc Lope. Yea, if she could get her parents to come to Magic, they would have the pack, but her fathers were just as stubborn as ever from what her mother had told her.
"Hey, baby, are you almost here?" her mom asked when she answered the phone.
About twenty minutes out, but you might want to warn Dad and Father that I already had a run-in with Zadock at the gas station,
Lanny said, hearing the growls in the background. You have me on speakerphone again?
She laughed.
"Of course, and what did the idiot do this time?" her mother snipped.
Is Tessy in the room?
she asked, not wanting her daughter to hear what she was about to say?
"No, she’s taking a bath, getting ready to see her momma. Now spill it," her father, Duncan, ordered.
She sighed. Just the same, wanting to touch and kiss on me. Umm, I kind of pushed him out of the way. He landed on his ass when I took off. He was not happy, just to warn you.
"You don’t worry about him. Now, tell us why the sudden visit, and are you taking Tessy with you?" Gerome, her dad, asked.
Can we wait for this until I get home? Plus, I need to speak with mom before I say anything,
she said, knowing that would set both of her fathers off, but her mother stopped the group chat.
"Go, and let me have
