About this ebook

Mr Wintell is the smartest man I know. His job is to teach us as much as he can before our brains turn to mush. The school believes the more they can teach us and stimulate our brains, the slower the turning to mush process will be. It might even be halted. No one’s saying it can be reversed, so maybe staying as smart as we currently are is all that we can hope for.
That’s partly why I’m keeping this diary. I don’t want to forget things and if I write them down, I can always read over them to keep them in my memory. Unless I forget how to read.

Kris is a zombie. He and the entire zombie population are trying to get on the best way they can. But every day brings its own trial and tribulations. After all, it's not easy being undead.

I woke early after an irritating night’s sleep. I sat up and flicked the maggots off my pillow. I pulled one from my ear and watched it squirming for a moment between my thumb and forefinger before giving it the flick too.

I guess that’s what life was like now. Waking up to a bed full of maggots.

Strange thing about maggots. They eat rotting flesh and leave healthy flesh alone. But, sometimes, when all you’ve got is rotting flesh holding some of your bits on, you don’t need maggots attacking it.

The Government closed the borders over a year ago. They needed to limit the spread of the infection and the subsequent dead and undead rate. Cemeteries overflowed but that hardly seemed a problem when people wouldn’t stay in their graves. Decapitation and cremation seemed to be the only things that worked to keep the dead dead. Families
