Use Your 24 Like Never Before - Chris Isaie

    Preface

During the first quarter of 2020, I began work on my first ever book. I had been contemplating, for a considerable length of time before seizing the opportunity to fully commit and commence writing. Like many others, during lockdown, I took advantage of an unfavourable situation and tried to do something constructive, making the most out of a very difficult circumstance.

I figured I could write the book in one year, even if I suffered a few bouts of writer’s block, I thought it possible. I knew I didn’t have experience of writing a book, I knew my subject matter was a complex one, I knew it required detailed research, intense studying and much patience. I anticipated there would be times where my passion would wane if I allowed myself to think too far ahead to how my debut project might be received. On top of that, I knew my plate was full, with my parenting duties, my rocky relationship with a ghetto baby mum (just joking T Baby, you know say me love you long time), my financial woes and my self-obligated duty to help my Mum with her cancer battle. I had thought out so much of the process of writing my book, I knew it was a grandioso task, I gathered it would take some time, but I never could have predicted it would have taken such an age.

The problem with me, is that I’m an optimist, I’m a dreamer and a schemer, so if I want it, I go for it, as you’ll come to find out, for me, things don't always go to plan. I gave it a solid attempt, but after about six or seven months, I knew I would fall short, and the year seemed very unrealistic. When you ‘know’ you cannot do something, you can’t. Just like if you ‘know’ you can, then you can. I could have thrown in a fitting Confucius quote here, but I’ll pass, if you know it, you know it. The reason why I won’t, is because I made a rule not to include anyone else’s quotes in this particular book. I wanted to expose a slice of my own life philosophy and I wanted to let only my thoughts and ideas fill pages and inspire. That also meant very few examples and anecdotes. If this were a rap, it would be an off the top, straight off the dome freestyle.

When I realised that it could potentially take me up to a decade to complete my first ever book, I figured that I needed a change in strategy, a boost, a small victory of some sort. Maybe I set myself up for failure by trying to do too much in such a short space of time, nevertheless, I gave it my all. There’s something about emptying your cup and giving a task your absolute everything that leaves very little room for regret or continued sadness. I wasn’t vexed or disappointed, I ‘knew’ that I had built an idea that I would grow and successfully implement. Remember, when you ‘know’, there’s nothing more to it, you just have to do it.

I headed back to the drawing board, and began to replan. By this time I had come up with what I considered to be a very catchy title, and the new idea was progressing well. That being said, I can understand why one might question my logic. Sometimes, I just do weird things. How can someone be stuck with writing a section of a book they had spent at least 9 months working on, and think that a sensible remedy to their writer’s block, is to start writing and planning another book. The move made no sense, but I knew it was a move I had to make.

I needed a quick win and I knew this new book was my winner. I needed hope and something to uplift me. That is what my original book was supposed to do and will do once it’s completed. It was supposed to keep people thinking positive and motivate them into action. I think I speak for the majority of us when I say, at that exact time, we all needed a lift, a quick win, and we didn’t have time to wait for my Queen’s Gambit like, potential 30 year project.

We were going through a very uncertain time with lockdown and coronavirus and many individuals were experiencing a plethora of challenging situations. Our rollercoaster emotions had us feeling disjointed, our spirits were deflated and our energy was depleted. I felt compelled to share my inspiration and motivation. I thought to myself, I need a positive book that can spread like a virus, and I hoped that everyone could hold one in their arms swiftly, like a jab from the new vaccine rollout.

What I first had to do was take my own advice and stay positive, and get it done,
