Refer to Raw-Edge Fusible Appliqué for all appliqué steps.

    Patterns are reversed for appliqué.

    WOF – width of fabric

    Cutting

Make templates for the scissors holder and the s, e and w appliqués using the patterns provided.

    From gray-with-white check cut:

    •1 (7 × 20) A rectangle

    •1 (1¼ × 6½) F strip

    From gray floral cut:

    •3 (7") B squares

    •2 (2½" × WOF) binding strips

    From coral tonal cut:

    •1 (5½ × 7) C rectangle

    •2 (3 × 4) J rectangles

    From turquoise tonal cut:

    •1 (4½ × 7) D rectangle

    From gray crosshatch cut:

    •2 (4 × 7) E rectangles

    From batting cut:

    •1 (7 × 20) G rectangle

    •1 (5½ × 7) H rectangle

    •1 (3 × 4) I rectangle

    Completing the Organizer Cover

    1. Refer to Raw-Edge Fusible Appliqué instructions and patterns given to prepare and cut one each s, e and w appliqué from coral tonal.

    2. Referring to Figure 1, position the step 1 appliqués on the A rectangle 1¾ in from the right and 3 up from the bottom edge. Fuse in place.

    Figure 1

    3. Machine blanket-stitch around each appliqué shape using matching thread. Transfer the embroidery pattern onto A with a fabric marker.

    4. Position A right side up on top of the G batting rectangle and baste around the outside edge. Use two strands of embroidery floss to sew the embroidery pattern through both layers by hand with an outline stitch. Sew the thread line with turquoise and the needle with dark gray floss.

    Outline Stitch

    5. Sew the turquoise button on the design as shown to complete the organizer cover.

    Completing the Zipper Section

    1. Referring to Figure 2a, place the closed zipper, right side up, on the worktable and center a long side of one E rectangle at the far edge, right side down. Using a zipper foot, machine-stitch close to the zipper teeth; press seam toward E. Topstitch close to the fold.

    Figure 2

    2. Referring to Figure 2b, repeat step 1, with the remaining E rectangle stitched to the opposite side of the zipper, making sure the sides of the E rectangles are aligned.

    3. Trim the zipper unit to 7 × 7 if needed, but DO NOT cut the ends of the zipper yet.

    4. Referring to Figure 3, partially open the zipper to retain the zipper pull then pin the zipper unit and a B square together, both right sides up with the zipper ends hanging free at the top and bottom. Machine-baste around the outside edge, reinforcing the stitching over the zipper ends and then trim the zipper ends to complete the zipper section.

    Figure 3

Completing the Scissors & Needle-Holder Section

    1. Trace the scissors holder shape on the wrong side of one J rectangle.

    2. Referring to Figure 4, position the J rectangles right sides together and pin them on the I batting rectangle with the marked J on top. Stitch around the curved edge of the design, leaving the straight edge open. Cut the shape out ⅛" outside the design and turn right side out.
