Chapter 1

Nicole Russo took a sip of her green tea smoothie and watched her love, Andi Winters, over the top of her cup. Nicole put her cup down.

All right, out with it. She smiled at Andi. You’ve got that glint in your eye and you’re smiling a lot. What’s this secret you want to spill?

It’s not a secret. Andi gave an impish grin that put a dimple in one cheek. Nicole loved that dimple. But, there is something I want to tell you. Or rather ask you about. Andi looked down and pushed her salad around in the container.

There was that dimple again. Andi looked up at Nicole through her eyelashes. But maybe I’ll wait until we get home. Andi put a forkful of veggies and lettuce in her mouth. She looked out the window at the Manhattanites dashing past on the sidewalk. Andi’s mouth quivered with what had to be suppressed laughter.

Nicole felt a warmth spread through her body. Andi was flirting with her. When had Andi learned to flirt? Nicole laughed to herself. Well, this was something that needed to be encouraged.

Oh, no you don’t. Nicole leaned into Andi’s line of sight. If it’s that good… Nicole stabbed a sliced strawberry out of Andi’s salad and used it to punctuate her next statement. I won’t be able to finish my lunch and I’ll be starving in the office all afternoon.

Nicole plopped the strawberry slice into her mouth and Andi gave her a wide grin.

We wouldn’t want your stomach rumbling to interrupt any conference calls.

See, exactly. Nicole pointed her finger at Andi. It makes good business sense for you to tell me.

Andi loved the way Nicole brightened the day. Andi wasn’t sure how she’d ever gotten through a day before Nicole came into her life. She gave up the struggle not to laugh at Nicole’s convoluted logic. Okay. You know that black tie event at the museum next week?

Andi couldn’t wait to see Nicole’s reaction to her surprise. Andi got so much enjoyment out of giving Nicole gifts. She enjoyed taking time to figure out just what Nicole would love and this time, she thought she’d found the perfect gift to tell Nicole how much she loved her.

Hearing Andi let loose and laugh in public almost made Nicole forget what they were talking about.
