About this ebook

These verses represent a number of things - they are the author’s thoughts - the author is thinking about HaShem. Some are prayers, others are poems. Sometimes the author is highlighting a Scripture verse within a poem. Written from a Jewish perspective, the verses address some of life’s basic questions - the existence of G-d, how to approach G-d, what to say to G-d, and so much more.

I love those who love me,

    and those who seek me

    early will find me.

    Prov. 8:17

    Amidah III

    O HaShem

    in the veil Of holiness

    we lift our voices

    we pray to You

    in the Holy Tongue

    words go forth

    to the throne

    Ancient words

    Hallowed words

    words of

    The Great Assembly

    we come before You

    hearts afire

    as we form

    The chosen words

    and we speak:

    O Lord,

    open my lips,

    Ps. 51:15

    You

    Above all nations

    You

    High in the heavens

    You

    In Your Kavod

    The vast reaches

    Of Your abundance

    Spills over

    Into Your world

    You can

    No longer

    Restrain it

    The love

    The love

    HaShem

    Is the stone wall

    which you may approach.

    HaShem

    Is the tender lover

    awaiting your embrace.

    HaShem

    Is the true judge

    who sits enthroned above

    HaShem

    Is the creator

who sustains it all in love

    HaShem

    Is the mother

    who loves all her children

    HaShem

    Is the light

    by which we see

    HaShem

    Is the tranquil water

    the lush meadow,

the house in which we dwell

    Hashem

    Under Shabbos skies

    We set forth

    Bringing hearts

    Full of love and awe

    We turn to the portion

    (we turn again)

    We turn to the mysteries

    In awe

    The mysteries

    Within a parchment scroll

    The mysteries

    Held in our chumeshim

    We gaze at the letters

    And worship

    And wade deep

    Without\Within

    Our world

    Our treasure

    Baruch HaShem!

    O HaShem

    The Unknowable One

    You Know us

    We do not Know You.

         O HaShem

    I worship You

    I adore You

    I prostrate myself

    Before You.

    You are worthy

    Of exaltation

    And acclaim.

         I glorify You.

         I give You

         The homage

         My HaShem

    O HaShem

    When I am

    far from You

    be not far from me.

    when the fog rolls in

    be hidden within it.

    when the tears fall,

    be the vessel

    that counts them.

    when the waves churn

    be the message

    that rolls ashore!

    when the winds blow,

    be the cooling breeze

    that sets me aright.

                    O HaShem

                The heartbreak!

                    The tears!

                Heaven in mourning

                Heaven sitting shiva

                For six million souls.

                The depth of Your grief

                    Cannot be felt

                We can only know

                That You felt it
