    I’ll never forget how I used to sit in church, every Sunday, angry, bitter, sad, burdened, bound, and lost. Sometimes people would come to me and try to make me stand and praise my God; ‘you know how we do.’ Literally I would sit, looking crossly at people because they could praise Him. I am so thankful that I have grown to understand that it is not that they could praise our God, but that they did.

    So I’ve heard, and so I thought, why praise? What is the purpose of running and dancing and shouting? Sing? Why? For what reason must I thank God for the same things over and over again? Prayerfully, before this book’s end, these and many other questions or doubts some of you may have will exist no more.

    When praise is offered to God, the primary intent, actually the only intent of our heart should be to glorify Him. This is one purpose for both our birth (Isaiah 43:21), as well as our adoption (Ephesians 1:5-6). Even though these passages speak of a people set apart, despite what you may think, or what you may have been taught, to thank and praise God is an expression of both faith and gratitude toward Him that develops as knowledge and understanding of Him increases: our merciful God does patiently expect to receive praise from us all.

    There are scriptures, such as in First Peter 2:2-10, that tell Believers to praise God so that we are aware praise is a portion of our duty (even though truly it is a privilege). If
