    Chapter 1

    Why Me, Oh Lord?

    Prayer

Most gracious and everlasting father, I come to you today to give you glory, honor, and praise. I thank you for yet another opportunity to stand before your people to bring forth the Bread of Life, the Word that may be in season and out of season. I thank you right now for placing me behind the cross of Calvary, sitting me down, and you standing up. I thank you for not allowing me to take any glory for what you use me to say and do in this place today. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, oh Lord, my strength and my redeemer, and let the question of Why me, oh Lord? be answered today. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray. Amen.

    Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 29:11–14 (NIV)

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, "plans, to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

I will be found by you, declares the Lord, ‘and I will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you," declare the Lord, and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.

This specific text is allowing us to know that, the appearance to the contrary notwithstanding, the Lord has not forgotten his people and that God is the ultimate source of both prosperity and disaster.

The Lord’s gracious gift of prosperity is contingent on his people’s willingness to repent.

I found that reading this text, God’s ultimate goal is to bring you back from captivity.

If I had to give this chapter a title, it would be

    Why Me, Oh Lord?

I found that, over the past years as I have anchored myself in the Lord and stood flat footed before the Enemy, many of us have been going through some mind-blowing and difficult situations that are very hard to come to grips with or even cope with at times, leaving us in a depressed state of mind. Or we’ve faced uncomfortable situations, causing us to lose our faith and focus, making us feel that we are in captivity. Although you know the Word says that faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen, are you really believing and walking in this Scripture? I asked this question because we have allowed our circumstances and situations to raise the question to God, Why me? But as I’m traveling on this spiritual journey of faith, strength, and perseverance, which many of us are traveling on, the Lord answered me in a quiet, still voice. He said, Why not you, daughter? I gave my only begotten son and he died for your sins; he did nothing wrong. But take my Word forth as I directed him to do, and look what happen to him.

Then the Lord said, "Daughter, I have given you a decree to do the same as I directed my son, and because of your obedience and faithfulness, I wanted to see if you really had the faith of a mustard seed. I wanted to see if you could endure and persevere in good times and bad. I wanted to see if your hope was truly built on me. I found that your prayers and dealings with me were sincere and just, and because my Word says that the fervent and effectual prayer of a righteous man avail much, you were being a good and faithful servant in what you were doing.

The Lord Lord’s response took me to Jeremiah 29:11 and I will show you the plans I have for your life,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans, to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope.

My message to you, saints, is that if you are going through something in your life and you don’t know which way you are going—if you have lost your faith, you have lost your way, and you don’t know how to find your hope—I found that the word hope on a spiritual aspect is the knowledge that we are being changed for the better as we trust in God’s promises. Romans 8:28–29 says, And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who has been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son.

Don’t you realize that the Bible is full of examples of men and women who hoped in God’s promises? His patriarch Abraham is held up for believers as a model of hope.

When Abraham was seventy-five, God promised to bless him and give him many descendants—as numerous as the stars in the sky. Abraham heard these words and believed God (Genesis 15:6), but despite his belief, Hebrews 6:15 explains that Abraham had to wait twenty-five years to see the fulfillment of his hope.

Yet all the while, Abraham trusted in God, the author of his hope, until he saw the promise come to pass. So if you are anchored in the Lord, know that God already knows the plans for your life. He needs to take you through this season of lowliness, financial issues, and people disrespecting you, job issues, and family issues; because he has found out that you can be trusted with his Word. When God can trust you, he will open the windows of heaven and pour you out blessings you don’t have room enough to receive. Don’t you know that what God has for you is for you? And he said that because he can trust you, when you call upon him and come and pray to him, he will listen to you.

He said in (Jeremiah 29:12:14) You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declared the LORD, ‘and will bring you back from captivity.

In order for God to bring you back out of captivity, you have to first anchor yourself in the Word of God. Let me give you a story of being anchored.
