    I write this in the memory of my Father-in-Law Don.

    He brought me to the paths of horseracing which have more forks than markers, the journey along those paths I have since followed at times aimlessly and at times with dogged determination.

    And in his passing he has brought me to the realization that any path taken means more when that journey down that path is shared.

    Special thanks to my daughter Lyndsay for her help in editing my work.

    As I mentioned in the dedication, my father-in-law Don introduced me to the world of horse racing.   From the moment we entered the OTB parlor on Long Island, New York, I was hooked.

    I went through all of the usual cycles of growth that a young novice to the sport goes through.  The thoughts of hitting huge payouts, ruing the loses, learning the game, investing the time in research, and the beginning of understanding the true possibilities that were there kept me coming back.

    I read through many books on handicapping and purchased dozens of methods and spot plays.  To this day I believe that there are few systems out there that are completely worthless and some knowledge
