Bullying - Gloria Jones

INTRODUCTION
I use to be bullied; I dreaded waking up every morning knowing ahead of time what my day would be like at school.
It's time for me to get ready now to go to school, what a bummer,
I remember saying to myself so many mornings. I tried my best to walk the couple of blocks to school and stay unnoticed to the bully (who, by the way, was a female). Every time, I would just attempt to hide and blend in with the rest of the crowd walking towards the school just to not be seen by her.
Did she ever wonder what I might be going through at home already? It was evident that she didn’t care considering she would pull at my hair or punch me in my back before we got to the first block. When I finally made it to school, I would be extremely upset, losing focus and ultimately deciding I hate school. So much so that I would fake sickness very often so I wouldn't have to go there and deal with the bullying I encountered on a daily basis.
One day my reading teacher called me up to answer the question asked. I knew the right answer, but I purposely responded with the wrong information for fear I may be picked on for being a smart kid. I thought if I would act dumb instead of showing that I was smart; the bully wouldn’t pick me on. I could see my teacher was disappointed in me for giving the wrong answer, for she had tutored me on the problem, and she was well aware of my ability to provide the correct answer.
I felt so isolated and alone at school. Often I wondered why this girl wanted to hurt me, I barely knew her. As a matter of fact, I had never done anything to her that would warrant such nasty bullying. I have never been a fan of violence, and to this day I stand against it. One day when I was about 11 years old, my sister and me went over to a neighbor's house and on this particular day her parents were arguing at the top of the steps. My friend, my sister and I came out of my friend's bedroom where we were playing with some of her dolls, and we went out to see what the arguing was all about. The argument was so intense that I ran home and never went back to her house again.
I didn't like violence, but I was subjected to it at an early age. If I wanted to play with the other kids at recess, I couldn’t because the bullies were there. I was tremendously afraid of them, and I knew they would be outside on the playground whenever I got there, so I would stay real close to my teachers because it made me feel safe. I had heard of the many different reasons bullies pick on their victims...It could be because a person has a handicap, the color of their skin, or in my case, they just didn’t like that I wore beautiful clothes and kept my hair neatly combed. Did I mention that I was a thumb sucker? Sucking my thumb was my security blanket, and I took it with me everywhere I went, even in class.
I would suck my thumb because I was afraid of the bully, but that didn't help my cause. The bullying caused me to become completely insecure. I was such a quiet person who
