FOREWORD
Fresh is to be renewed in vigor, and each day that you wake, the opportunity is yours to make changes to your life. A fresh moment to face new challenges and to overcome them, to feed yourself new things that will cause growth, to free yourself from the pains of the past. Each day your eyes open, you’ve been granted, once again, the gift of life, to build on a foundation of truth, joy, and good intention. A Fresh 24 is the catalyst to help you form and create the life you were designed to live, and it is just the intention of these affirmations to simply help you find your way.
—Rafer A. Owens Sr.
Real. As a kid in the Owens household, we learned very early how real life was—not because we lived a struggling life but because we were intentionally taught principles and values to avoid it. When I left home and joined the air force, I realized how much more prepared I was mentally for the life I chose. Knowing that life isn’t fair, get used to it
(thanks, Dad), I always had a realistic view of my life—what I wanted and accepted from it. I didn’t complain like others. I found ways to overcome and work around things. It gave me a mental edge over my friends and adults older than me that I can never repay my parents for. Being real. Seeing real. Living real. It’s been a game changer for me. If you are willing, the affirmations of A Fresh 24 will not only enhance and grow you in how you think, but they will also challenge you to take a daily look at yourself to become better than you’ve ever been.
—Rafer A. Owens Jr.
Evolve—to develop gradually. Every day, we are evolving, and we should ask ourselves, What am I learning and how am I growing?
This question makes circumstances more about what’s happening for you rather than to you. Growth is happening. I look at problems as a task or a test. And typically, if we don’t pass the test, we find ourselves repeating a cycle … (the same financial mistakes, meeting Mr. Wrong for the third time, not losing the weight). Evolution is an essential part of your Fresh 24 because you should find growth in the day-to-day process. If we are not growing, we’re dying, and what is dead cannot evolve. Circumstances are dealt with daily. Are you evolving? Is growth happening in your Fresh 24?
—Ramone D. Owens
Salute the positive steps you’ve made in areas of struggle. The simple acknowledgment of positive things instead of the issues helps me to love who I am today. This tribute will be the elevator to our goals if we are willing to do the work, which in turn will result in an appetite for success, the will to win, and strength to push through whatever the day might bring. Start the day with a positive mind-set, realizing that a thought in the right direction is a step closer to a better life!
—Ryan D. Owens
How I take care of my mind is how I take care of my life. In forward thinking, it is important to center yourself daily through prayer, meditation, or even positive affirmations. What this does is bring about an anchor so we are not easily blown into the culture and the mind-set of our environment. As humans, naturally we were made to adapt to any circumstance or condition, but when we have not anchored ourselves, we begin to adapt to our negative surroundings. This book will help you realize the true power you possess, how to direct it, and how to put it into motion with purpose. One thing you must understand is you are the only person who can make your today look totally different from your yesterday. I believe that with these affirmations, we will all find what it means to live life to the fullest, maximizing our potential, with courage and no doubt of who you used to be. If the ultimate goal in life is to simply be better than I was the day before, A Fresh 24 is a guide for how to take those steps one day at a time.
—Reshaun D. Owens
