Food For Writers
So long as you have food in your mouth, you have solved all questions for the time being.
— Franz Kafka
Are You A Hoochie-Snacker?
Here is the thing about writers. The more time we spend in our own heads, the more writing we get done. When it comes to feeding ourselves, the shorter the preparation time, the faster we get back to writing.
Another thing about writers. We are snackers. Writing that occurs between quick nourishing bites is better than writing on a heavy stomach, or worse an empty one.
What we do not want is to fall asleep on our laptops. Laptop napping leads to keyboards sticky with drool. And what is the number one cause of laptop napping? The dreaded sugar crash.
Sure, that Kit Kat bar is the bomb when we pause the juicy story spilling from our fingers to throw some money into a vending machine. But that Kit Kat bar does us no favours when it dives off the deep end of a blood sugar spike moments later.
To keep the words flying from brain to page, I have accumulated a treasure trove of recipes that accommodate the writing lifestyle. I like to write without interruptions, so most of my favourites are fast, easy or can be prepared in advance. Also, I am a total hoochie for anything chocolate-caramel, chocolate-peanut butter or pumpkin spice. Therefore, recipes included in this book tick these boxes. And, frankly they received the highest ratings on my food blog.
Most of these creativity enhancing fuel ideas are gluten-free and/or high in protein because:
One consequence of today’s grains being overly processed and genetically modified is that the gluten from such grains negatively impacts the nervous system. The immune system mistakably attacks and also destroys brain and nervous tissue while discerning that it is attacking gluten.
¹
Food that is higher in nutrients that our bodies actually need (like protein) help our neutrons stay strong and prevent memory issues. In spite of what our minds tell us when presented with a brownie, what our brains actually crave is the multitude of nutrients present in natural, biologically active foods.
²
In other words, glutens are bad for the brain and protein is good for the brain.
Food For Writers pulls the most popular recipes from three years of food blogging into one easy-to-access place. I hope you enjoy these handy dandy brainy recipes. All recipes are snacker-hoochie approved. Which is why this book is not just for writers. Whether you are a writer, reader or snacker-hoochie, this book is for you.
