    THINK THROUGH

    ACTIONS – AR-TEC-ARC-D

PLANNING MODEL FOR YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE:

FUNCTION: For specific events and activities, complete the information in the designated boxes to produce a quick planning sheet to use at work or with friends and family when organizing requirements and actions. You can then share the sheet with others via email or text.

INSTRUCTION: Review the information below and put it into your calendar application. You may use the recommended timelines or change them to fit your life. Set the alarm function for each event to remind you of the upcoming event two weeks before it’s due for completion. For bigger events requiring longer planning, set the alarm function a couple of months before (example: planning a vacation or planning a dinner party). Once you have everything set in your calendar, in order to make sure your planning works, you must review the calendar often. Every week, take time to review the next two or three months to ensure you start thinking through planning considerations and coordination.

Consider using the AR-TEC-ARC-D model to think through all actions, activities, and events. Memorize the model to have a quick mental checklist you can use that will force you to plan from multiple angles. Remember, you can also use this model for individual actions such as driving to work or simply just thinking through your day.

Here is an example of how you can use AR-TEC-ARC-D in your morning routine. Upon waking up, think through the following:

Activities (Main Events): Think through the activities/events of the day. Review your calendar through the next two weeks.

Requirements (Primary Requirements): What are the requirements to support the activities? Set the conditions to succeed. How can priming and certain conditions help you achieve your goals? Determine your most important goal of the day.

Transportation (Modes, Routes, Traffic, Tolls, Parking): How will you arrive at the various events for the day? Do you have money for tolls and parking? Make sure to download or update offline maps.

Environment (News, Weather, Threats): Determine how the conditions of the environment will drive decisions, planning, and execution. You won’t forget your umbrella, and you will arrive to the airport on time by knowing which route has the worst construction on it because you will avoid said route. If in unfamiliar areas such as when you’re traveling, you will avoid traveling through areas with worrisome crime rates.

Clothing (Colors, Anchors, Venue): What colors should you wear to that important job interview or to an outing with friends? Blue makes you appear more trustworthy, while pink and yellow make you seem more friendly and less threatening. Darker colors engender feelings of authority in you and others who interact with you. Use a physical conversational anchor to assist you in a conversation with a client. Wear a pin that will spark conversation, and always notice theirs as well.

Activities (Sub Tasks): What are the supporting actions required to stay on top of the day? Take the time to review your calendar for the next two weeks or more. Do you need to order anything online? Pay bills?

Requirements (Secondary Requirements, Equipment, Information, Media): What do you need to bring to your events to ensure success? Pack your bag accordingly.

Communication (Family, Co-Workers): Check in with family and friends and coordinate work requirements with co-workers (upper-level management, co-workers). Confirm appointments, meetings, and reservations. Contact someone in your network to keep relationships warm and follow up with new contacts.

Decisions (Personal and Professional): What decisions must you make and implement for the day or upcoming events in the next two weeks? Ensure you give yourself enough time for planning around your decisions.

    ACTIVITIES/EVENTS:

Note: Write out each activity/event and leave enough space to write requirements under them.

Write upcoming meetings, appointments, events in sequential order for tomorrow

Write upcoming meetings, appointments, events in sequential order through the next two weeks
