THE PEACEFUL DOVE AND THE BEAUTIFUL GIRL

Dove has always been known to be very peaceful. In a faraway town, there lived a dove whose name was Donna. She was very quiet, easygoing, and loved by all sundries. The king would always beacon on her to make a judgment anytime there was trouble in the town. There was hardly anyone who did not love Donna for her excellent sense of judgment. At night, children would gather at her hut as it had become her custom always to tell them moonlight stories to which she had never disappointed them. They all love Donna, the Dove.

One day, Donna was on her way to the market to buy foodstuffs when she heard the cry of a little child from a nearby bush, and she decided to check. Lo and behold, she found a beautiful young girl alone wrapped in white linen crying. She looked around to see if anyone else was around, probably the mother or any of the relatives, but to her utmost surprise, no one was around. She then carried the child and went to the palace to see the king. She informed them of how she came about the little girl and how she tried to see if anyone would come to claim her yet none was in sight. So, she asked the king if she could adopt the girl as her own since she did not have a husband not to talk of having a child of her own, and the king accepted. Donna thanked the king and returned home with the bountiful joy in her hands. From that day, Donna became the happiest, and it did not take time before everyone knew what her source of joy was.

Donna named the child Karen and took care of her so much that there was no child who did not wish to be in Karen's shoes. She grew up to be the most beautiful, intelligent and turned out to be the brightest in school. The teachers loved her, and they were so proud of her not just for her academic excellence but also for her good moral conduct. Karen was the talk of the town; everyone wanted to be her friend, parents see her as a role model even the king loved her dearly.

But as the popular adage says ‘no matter how good one is, there is always someone somewhere hating for no cause.’ There was a witch doctor who was usually consulted concerning the affairs of the town but was later forgotten when Donna solved critical cases without resulting to sacrifices nor offending any party. The witch doctor felt cheated, neglected, rejected as her only means of feeding had been blocked by Donna. She was greatly despised and had revenge boiling in her heart for Donna. As soon as the news of the adopted child by Donna, she started plotting on how to go about her revenge and thought to use the girl to get to her.

One day, while Karen was returning home from school, she met with an old lady who was carrying a pot of water on her head, and she decided to help her, unknown to her that the old lady was a witch. As soon as Karen dropped the pot of water to turn back home, the old woman trapped her. Donna became worried and restless when Karen did not return home at her usual time. Days and weeks grew; the whole town including the king, had grown weary searching as all they had done in search of Karen had proved abortive. The king then sent for the witch doctor to consult the gods to know about the whereabouts of the innocent child. After the witch had made consultations, she said that the dove had offended the gods and that’s why she has been punished. The only way for them to see the girl was for Donna to die, said the witch doctor. The whole town including the king was so devastated that he could not eat for days; even Donna was confused. On the day Donna was to die, the whole town had gathered at the town square, suddenly there came a loud voice from amidst the crowd. They were surprised to see the imbecile who, through Donna, had been saved from been sent out of the town by the witch doctor. The imbecile had seen Karen when she helped the old native witch but was surprised to hear that the same child was missing. The king then sent some guards to go search the witch’s house while other guards seize the old witch and lock her up till the girl was found. A few minutes later, the guards returned with Karen, and she explained all that happened to the town.

After much deliberations, the king gave an order for the old witch to leave the town to avoid unwanted occurrences. Although Donna was not happy with the verdict, she had no choice other than to accept the king’s decision. Donna and her daughter lived happily ever after, and the town regained peace again.

Moral lesson. Always be good and learn to live in peace with all.

    THE END

    HAVIN, MABEL, AND ANTHONY

In a faraway land, there lived three poor orphans named; Havin, Mabel, and Anthony. They lived in an old house inside a small town. Havin was five; Mabel was three and Anthony was four years old. They were siblings, and they loved each other so much. In that same town, lived Mrs. Annabel, a widow, who was the town’s doctor. She was a lovely woman, but she had no children.

Every morning, Havin and his siblings would go to the town square to beg for food and clothes. Help these poor orphan children, give us food for our belly and clothes for our body, they begged. Some friendly folks made it a duty to give Havin and his siblings clothes and warm milk every day. Mrs. Annabel loved Havin's little sister Mabel and gave her big apples every day.

One day, Mrs. Annabel needed help to organize her garden, and Havin and his siblings, Mabel and Anthony, offered to help. Together, they planted vegetables, flowers, and what have you. oh, they are so delightful, Mrs. Annabel said to herself. Havin and his siblings were very good kids, and they were loved by everyone. Then little Mabel became seriously ill. She couldn’t keep anything down in her belly. Havin carried her on his back and ran down to the town’s clinic. Mrs. Annabel immediately took Mabel from Havin and placed her on her examination table. Little Mabel lay weakly on the table. I don’t want to die, she cried weakly.

Come on, baby, you will be just fine! Mrs. Annabel assured her.

After the doctor examined her, she brought out injection and an apple. She said to little Mabel, I have an apple for you but I’ll only give you after you receive this injection. Mabel looked at the needle with fright. I hate needles, Mrs. Annabel. I know, darling. But if you promise to be brave, I’ll take you to my house and give you some ice cream. You love ice cream, don’t you? Mrs. Annabel assured her. Mabel lay bravely on the bed and allowed Mrs. Annabel to do her job. She slept off almost immediately and woke up feeling better. Havin felt so relieved. I’m glad you’re okay, Mabel" Havin patted her back.

Havin went to Mrs. Annabel’s office. Ma’am, he called out as he knocked softly on her door. Yes, Havin, come on in, she urged him in. Do you need something, she asked him? Thank you for taking care of little Mabel, but I don’t have any money yet to pay her bills, he spoke shyly. Don’t worry, dear Havin. Mabel is a sweet little kid, and this one is all on me. Mrs. Annabel said to him. Havin looked at her with gratitude and thanked her for her kindness.

Two months later, Mrs. Annabel adopted Havin and his two siblings. She loved them like her own children and took good care of them. She took them to the town’s school, where they were placed in different classes. They learnt new languages, arithmetic, and history. They did well in school and won prices every school year. Mrs. Annabel was proud of them, and they lived happily ever after.

    THE END

    MR. LONG NOSE

There was a man who lived in a treehouse. He had a very long nose, so people called him Mr. Long nose. Mr. Long nose had visited several countries in the world, and he could speak at least thirteen global languages. Mr. Long nose was a brilliant man, skilled in the usage of numbers and letters, and every parent wanted their children to learn from Mr. Long nose. Children, however, were terrified of Mr. Long nose because he had a long nose and, consequently, an ugly face.

There was a bad boy who stood at the back of Mr. Long nose’s house every evening to make fun of him. I need shade from the hot sun, oh let down your nose, Mr. Long nose, the boy screamed every now and then. Don’t tease your elders. It’s disrespectful to do that, his mother warned him. But he wouldn’t listen. Every evening he went to the poor man’s house to mock him and when the sun sets behind the mountains, he returned home.

One day, the bad boy’s teacher said to him, you need to take extra classes to meet up with your mates, you are lagging behind. Tell your mother to see me. The bad boy went home that day but not without stopping at hiding Long nose’s house to mock him. My teacher wants to see you, he informed his mother that evening when he got home. So, the next day, the bad boy and his mum went to see his teacher. Your son needs to take extra classes, the teacher informed his mother. Take him to Mr. Long nose, the teacher advised.

A few days later, his mother visited Mr. Long nose. Please, Mr. Long nose, come to my aid, she pleaded. Mr. Long nose thought for a while and said: I’ll help you only if you agree to let him stay with me while I tutor him. So, his mother took him to the treehouse to live with Mr. Long nose. The bad boy cried and cried because he was scared of Mr. Long nose. He is going to cut me into pieces, fry me with salt and pepper and eat me up he cried to his mother before she left him, but she paid no attention to him. When it was time to sleep, the bad boy laid with his eyes wide open in hunger. He was scared, so he refused to eat anything Mr. Long nose offered him.

The next day, Mr. Long nose gave him some books to read. The books were about a hundred. You must read them all before the next seven days, Mr. Long nose said to him. The bad boy cried at the sight of the pile of books. The earlier you started, the better for you. No books, no food! Mr. Long nose warned him. So, the bad boy stayed up all night, for the next seven days, reading the books given to him. By the seventh day, he had only read fifty books.

You won’t eat anything till you finish reading these books except you promise me to turn a new leave and never tease your elders again! Mr. Long nose said to him. The bad boy cried, I would never tease my elders again. I will always be a good boy. I will read my book and pass my exams always. So, Mr. Long nose sent the bad boy home like a good boy. He did his assignment always, and he never teased his elders again. The bad boy’s mother took baskets of fruits to Mr. Long nose in appreciation for what he had done for her son. Mr. Long nose smiled at her as he received the gift from her. Your son is now a good boy, he said to her.  THE END

    PIONA: THE CRIPPLED GIRL

Brownstone was a densely populated town in the western part of Angola. There lived a beautiful girl whose beauty was the talk of the town, and her popularity was as wide as a burning bush. And her mother was a well-known businesswoman who deals mainly in bead making. This being the nature of her work always caused her to travel from one country to another while her husband, Mr. Zanla, was an interior and exterior decorator. Money, power, and respect are the least compared to the worth that is in their command. However, Piona their only daughter, had a curse on her, which brought an incomplete joy in their wonderful family. Piona could not walk alone for two to three minutes since she was five; no wonder she is very popular.
