INTRODUCTION
THIS HAS BEEN A LONG time coming and many times I thought, what could I possibly share with anyone that could make a difference in anyone’s life. Through this journey called LIFE, I am finding that God has been giving me peaks into my past and allows me to see more clearly of how I’ve become the woman I am and why. Not only that, but also the hidden places and times that I have said, No, God, not now. I’m not ready; take that journey back in time!
I’ve realized as God once told me, In order to go forward, you sometimes have to go back.
I really didn’t understand it until I took my own personal journey back home and discovered that in going back, I finally could move forward. I pray that in reading my own personal journey on the road to forgiveness, God will help you also to see that taking your own personal journey back can mean being able to move forward in your life. It’s the story of how my beautiful grandmother Iwillie McGhee and I began our relationship of healing. After being estranged from each other for over 35 years and to see the power of forgiveness not only changed my heart, my life and many in my family. I am forever changed and when God first laid it on my heart to begin writing this book, it took me a really long time to understand and grasp the concept of what had happened in my life and why it happened and how exactly this could help anyone else? As I take this journey down my very own memory lane, I ask that God begins to reveal to you personally, any unforgiving in your heart. I pray that after reading this book, if there are any areas in your heart that need healing, you will find the courage within yourself to let go of the past and press toward your future. So, come with me on my journey to forgiveness.

CHAPTER 1
Where do I even begin to think of my family history? It can become a blur of family wise tales, facts and a mixture of hidden secrets. I think in order to truly understand my family history, I’d have to go back a few generations and that is where I can see where some of the fractures of division began. I never really knew my grandmother growing up. My earliest memories are vague of her coming into town from Arkansas to visit the family in Denver and she’d spend a few hours with us talking and she’d give us hugs and kisses. She would say how big everyone was getting, and then leave to go visit and stay with one of my aunts or uncles. I remember this happening throughout my life, but I don’t remember phone calls from her just to see how I was doing or just to say Hi. I always felt she didn’t care enough to really take the time to get to know me or anyone else in my family and it seemed to me that she was showing favoritism because she would only spend a few moments at my family’s house but would spend the next week or so at my aunt’s house. My family has always had family members not being close or seeing each other. It wasn’t like they had a huge fight, or the other person did something that would warrant a person never wanting to speak with them. We just never dealt with everyone and only spent time with the ones we wanted to. This was just a common practice with all my family members. I always thought this was how all families acted. That viewpoint was very wrong, and it took God to open my eyes to see the dysfunction in my family.
I have known throughout my
