Chapter Two
Jimi Leroy
Climbing out of the backseat of the limousine, Jimi placed his hand onto the top of the door. He looked over his shoulder, catching a breeze with his fingertips. Jimi felt the breeze slither over the sidewalk towards a set of steps before him. He moved his hands away from the limousine door.
Making his way towards the steps, Jimi wondered where the principal was. He knew his mother had set up the tour for her to attend. But with the tower's construction being completed, he knew she would be better off at her office.
Taking a step forward, Jimi placed his foot onto the first step. He heard the sound of the driver closing the door to the limousine. The driver looked over at Jimi with a nervous look on his face.
He asked him. Do you need any assistance?
I’m good.
Jimi told the driver. Thanks for the offer.
Taking a step up the staircase towards the entrance of the school, Jimi held a smile on his face. He felt the plastic of his white cane touching his side. He heard the clicking sound of his white cane, as his cane touched his skin. Jimi let a soft sigh slither down his side. He knew they would not understand what was going on, what they saw was a child who was incapable of seeing before his eyes.
Jimi kept his head held high. He knew his sight was gone. But the power which flowed at the edge of his fingertips had become what was missing from him.
Walking to the top of the steps, Jimi smelt a strong scent of a man’s cologne. His cologne slithered into Jimi’s nostrils. He made an assumption that the man was a teacher.
Listening to the man’s footsteps on the bricks, Jimi waited with his hands folded in front of him. His eyes darted towards the man as he approached him. Jimi heard the sound of his driver walking up the steps behind him. He wondered if the driver was going to keep a watchful eye on him.
The sound of the man’s voice, erupted loudly in Jimi’s ears. Mister Leroy, is it?
Yes.
Jimi forced a smile across his face. Your Principal Greenwood?
The man smiled with a soft tilt of his head.
Sir.
The driver told Jimi. He smiled.
Good.
Jimi looked over at his driver. I would hate to have the wrong person.
The principal held a nervous look across his face, like he might have offended Jimi with his notion. Jimi figured he was told about his condition. He held his hand up to introduce his driver. Jimi remembered he had no idea what his name was.
My driver.
He hoped the man would say his name.
It’s nice to meet you.
The driver said. I’ll be accompanying Mr Lee-Leroy as he’s on the tour of our school.
All right.
Principal Greenwood placed his hands together. Follow me.
He led the way towards the entrance of the school. Jimi stayed behind him with his driver to his side. Jimi rose his hand up to his side. He placed his hand onto the drivers shoulder. He felt the driver move his shoulder slightly. Jimi figured the driver was unaware of what he had offered, when he said he would accompany him on the tour.
Letting the driver lead his way, Jimi walked into the school. He felt a splash of air touch his face as the door opened. He walked into the school with the air drifting along with him. Jimi guessed the school was a sight to be seen. He felt the air stop moving, once he reached the lobby inside.
The principal stood in front of the driver and Jimi. As we got through the school, if you have any questions, feel free to interrupt.
Sure.
Jimi said to the driver. You too.
The driver smiled. I understand.
Jimi took a step forward. He heard the driver taking a step beside him. Jimi moved his hand, hoping to feel the touch of the breeze. He felt a soft breeze drifting past him towards the doors as they slid close behind him. Jimi felt his connection to the breeze, vanish from the sense of his fingertips. He let a soft sigh slither over his lips.
Walking with the principal guiding him down a hallway, Jimi felt his driver staying close by his side. Jimi moved his fingers on the drivers shoulder. He slid his hand down to arm, locking his arm around his. He wondered if the driver would mind. Jimi felt locking his arm with someone else was much comfortable then holding his hand up to their shoulders.
Moving further down the hallway, Jimi noticed how ghostly still the hallway seemed. He wondered if any students were attending class. A breeze slithered down the hallway towards Jimi’s fingertips. He felt his mind grabbing a hold of the breeze.
The breeze slithered down the hallway towards the lockers along the walls. Jimi felt the breeze slither into a few cracks on the walls. He guessed the building
