THE MUSIC MAN: OTHER DIMENSIONS

Chapter 1
Jimmy and Soriya walked down the hall of the Windsart Boarding School. I can’t figure out this schedule,
Jimmy said out loud.
This was the first school that he actually attended, and he had no clue how to read a schedule. He barely knew what it meant.
Here, let me see,
suggested Soriya. Wow! We have three classes together!
she shouted. Look, see we have piano, math, and composition.
I also have violin; mom wants me to master BOTH the piano and the violin.
Do you like playing the violin?
Jimmy asked.
Sort of, I mean I do, I just have problems sometimes getting it correct,
Soriya replied.
How about you? Do you like playing the piano?
she asked Jimmy, inquisitively.
Yes, I fell in love with it,
Jimmy smiled. Do I look familiar to you?
he asked. No, why?
Soriya answered.
Just asking,
Jimmy replied.
Jimmy felt so strange, because Soriya looked just like how he remembered in his dream.
Oops!
Suddenly a taller boy bumped into Jimmy and made him drop his books.
Hey, that’s not nice!
yelled Soriya. He’s such a jerk.
Who’s that?
asked Jimmy, while picking up his books.
Him and I went to the same elementary school together, he has always been a jerk,
Soriya replied.
She scowled and helped Jimmy with his books. It’s okay, I got it,
said Jimmy.
Sigh.
His mother needs to give him a good spanking,
said Soriya, with one hand on her hip. Come on, let’s get to class,
she sighed.
Jimmy admired Soriya, not only was she determined and assertive in his dream, but she also had the same traits in real life.
Jimmy walked into his next class, and noticed the teacher writing very strange figures on the chalkboard. He knew that it was math, but there were dots, and he even seen Xs’.
Come on come on,
said the professor in a hurried manner. You can sit anywhere you like.
Jimmy decided to walk with Soriya, because he felt so comfortable around her. He had no idea where Angela, Chris, and Phillip went to.
They just all went their separate ways.
We must know each other,
Jimmy mumbled to himself. What was that?
whispered Soriya.
Jimmy ignored her question.
You can’t sit here,
said a shorter girl.
She had tan skin, with long brown hair braided into a ponytail. Yep, her boyfriend is sitting there!
shouted a very handsome boy. Shut up Jason!
shouted the girl.
Let’s just sit here,
Jimmy said to Soriya.
They both sat in the chairs and placed their books and schedules on the desks and looked straight ahead.
Okay class, this is Math,
the professor started to say. And I am Mrs. Hilea.
One of the students laughed.
My name sounds funny to you?
Mrs. Hilea asked while staring at the student.
No ma’am,
said the boy, who looked about fourteen.
The professor was very pretty, with chocolate skin and shoulder length brown hair. Now, I am going to set some rules.
No talking while I am talking.
No chewing gum.
No writing notes.
No chit-chat.
Pretty much, behave.
I am here to teach you math, which is a very useful skill in society.
Suddenly, a girl raised her hand.
She had light brown skin, with curly hair and pretty dark brown eyes. Yes?
Mrs. Hilea asked. My mom says that math is useful but that we are here to learn music, so just to really focus on music.
Well, Misses...what is your name?
asked the professor.
Crystal,
the girl replied.
Well Miss Crystal, she is correct, but you do need to pay attention.
Math is good for a number of things.
Counting, measurements, amongst other situations.
But yes, this is also a boarding music school, so music is going to be your main course of study.
However, you do need to learn how to count, read, and write, all of which are life skills.
Now, let’s begin, shall we?
Mrs. Hilea asked the class.
Wow she was strict, wasn’t she?
asked Jimmy.
The bell rang, and Jimmy and Soriya hurried out of their seats. Oh look! Mr. Cornelius!
shouted Jimmy.
You know the assistant teacher?
Soriya asked with her eyebrows raised. Long story!
Jimmy ran to Cornelius and hugged him.
Hi, my boy, how are you enjoying the school?
the Music Man asked.
It’s nice so far, the Math teacher is a little strict though, but most of the students seem nice,
Jimmy replied.
Good,
the Music Man replied. Glad to hear that.
Have you found out where you’ll be sleeping?
he asked.
Jimmy looked at his schedule.
The tour is at one p.m., it’s actually after lunch,
Jimmy explained. What do you have next?
asked the Music Man.
Composition and the Study of Music,
Jimmy replied.
You must really pay attention in these classes, as these classes explore the core of music,
the Music man explained.
Will do sir.
Well, I have to get going Jimmy,
the Music Man continued to say.
I am a professor here now.
Remember, stay focused and don’t get into trouble.
Will do sir!
Jimmy shouted.
He seems really nice,
said Soriya. I loved how he played the piano.
Yes, he is so talented,
Jimmy replied.
Come, on before we’re late.
Jimmy and Soriya quickly made their way to their next class.
I don’t understand why we didn’t have orientation first, this is so confusing,
Jimmy complained. The classes were marked, and they had maps, but it still confused them. Well, after orientation, we’ll for sure know where to go,
replied Soriya.
It just takes some getting used to I guess,
sighed Jimmy.
Class was over and Jimmy and Soriya entered the hallways. Hey guys!
shouted Chris. Jimmy still didn’t understand what was going on and decided to just let it go. Where are you guys going?
Chris asked.
We were just heading toooo.....
Soriya began to speak.
To lunch!
shouted Jimmy. I am too!
shouted Chris.
I wonder does everyone have the same lunch?
he asked.
I don’t think so, this school is way too big,
replied Soriya. Well we better get going!
Chris yelled.
K, I’ll see you guys in there,
said Soriya. Gotta grab some things.
Is everything okay?
asked Jimmy. Yes, just have to grab some things,
Soriya replied. Jimmy still had those feelings he had in his dream.
The cafeteria was very large and Jimmy never saw so much food. There was basically every selection of meat one could think of, as well as soups, and a selection of treats.
Wow!
shouted Jimmy, as he stared at the food counters.
Come on friend,
Chris said, as he put his hand on Jimmy’s shoulder. Let’s pick out a seat.
Chris hurried his way to the table with the least number of students. He had light brown skin with a very handsome look to him. He also seemed pretty shy and Jimmy was thrown off by it. I can NOT believe my History teacher,
shouted a high pitch voice. Angela slammed her books on the table and plopped down. Anyone sitting here?
she asked.
The two teens shook their heads no. Angela was rather small but medium height. What do you mean?
asked Jimmy. Well, we ALREADY have homework,
Angela stated. It is the first day.
How could she?
Angela put her head in her hands and just shook her head. Jimmy laughed at the sight that she was so dramatic. Oh!
Angela whined.
Let me just get something to eat.
Watch my things, will you guys?
Of course!
smiled Chris. Chris ate ham with mashed potatoes and gravy. He also had berry punch to soothe his taste buds. Jimmy, on the other hand, chose beef stew with lemonade.
There you guys are,
said Soriya as she sat down. Has the orientation started?
No, I thought it was after lunch,
replied Jimmy.
Soriya shrugged her shoulders.
Hey, there’s your friend, or should I say Professor Cornelius again,
she said, as she looked in another direction.
Jimmy was too busy stuffing his mouth, and Soriya just looked around.
Guys, I found something peculiar by mistake,
Angela whispered suddenly.
Jimmy jumped, as she caught him off guard. I thought you were getting food?
asked Chris. I was but...
Angela started to say.
Look..
You know how we had piano this morning?
Yes,
said Jimmy with his mouth full. Well, the professor looks different,
Angela explained.
What do you mean?
asked Jimmy as he looked up. She just looks...different,
Angela whispered.
Isn’t that her?
Soriya pointed. All four of them stared at the professor. Her hair was now wavy and she was practically glowing.
That’s what you found?
smirked Soriya.
Maybe she’s dating someone here and is just very happy.
Soriya winked at Jimmy. Jimmy blushed of course. No, I found this,
Angela said suddenly.
She pulled out what appeared to be a broken wand. Everyone was silent.
What is that?
Chris whispered, with wide eyes. I had a dr....
Jimmy started to whisper. Suddenly, the bell rang. It sounded like a low- pitched piano key.
Jimmy immediately gasped.
What is up with these bells?
asked Chris as he looked up at the clock.
What’s wrong?
asked Soriya, as she looked at Jimmy.
He didn’t answer.
Welp, time for orientation,
Chris said, as he stood up.
The others stood up as well.
Guys I have to tell you something,
Jimmy said in a low voice, but he was not heard.
All four teens quickly followed the other students.
Other students were sitting near them and Jimmy didn’t want to sound crazy.
Where did you find that at?
asked Soriya as she looked at Angela.
Well, I was going up to get food and then I saw something shining in the reflection of the glass,
Angela responded. And there it was.
How strange,
Soriya said under her breath.
Angela nodded her head in agreement.
Jimmy kept walking, staying engaged in the orientation. Jimmy!
Look!
Soriya pointed at the classroom with the piano.
Did you see that?
she asked.
See what?
Jimmy asked, startled. Mr. Cornelius,
Soriya answered. You didn’t see that?
No Soriya,
Jimmy sighed.
He just appeared out of nowhere,
Soriya explained. In the classroom.
Like, I looked at where the piano usually is.
No one was sitting there, and the piano wasn’t there either.
And then all of a sudden, Cornelius and the piano appeared.
Soriya, I have to tell you something,
Jimmy said nervously.
Soriya looked at Jimmy with very inquisitive eyes. I had a dream of all of you.
All of who?
Soriya replied.
You, Angela, Phillip, and Chris.
I don’t understand,
Soriya replied confused.
The other teens were paying attention to the lady speaking.
I have never met you all, but I had a dream with you in it,
Jimmy replied.
Suddenly, Cornelius walked out of the classroom. Both teens looked at him. Why Jimmy, you guys enjoying the orientation?
the Music Man asked.
Sir, is that YOUR piano?
Jimmy asked, as he exchanged a glance with Soriya. Why, yes it is,
replied the Music Man.
I figured since I’m the assistant professor here, I’ll just keep my piano here.
Well, have to meet with a teacher.
See you all soon!
Jimmy just stood there, speechless. Jimmy, what is going on???
asked Soriya.
I think that piano can take us to another realm,
Jimmy replied. He looked at Soriya, hoping he didn’t sound crazy.
It’s a long story, but I had a dream of it with you all.
Remember that wand I saw?
asked Angela, as she overheard their conversation.
Phillip and Chris also joined in. The group nodded their heads.
It makes sense now,
Angela continued to say. I think they’re traveling!
Traveling?
Soriya asked confused.
Yes, I can’t remember where I heard it from, but they could be traveling,
Angela responded.
I think we exist in other realms,
Jimmy suddenly said. Cornelius definitely does.
It doesn’t make sense, because no one knew who I was.
Unless...
Unless what?
Soriya answered.
Unless I exist somewhere else,
Jimmy mumbled.
You guys are talking crazy,
said Chris.
And you got the witch’s book in my dream,
Jimmy said, looking at Chris.
Okay, I am NOT hanging around you all,
Chris responded, as he started to walk off.
I have to focus on my musical studies.
Nice meeting you all.
Phillip shook his head and walked off as well.
The others looked at them as they walked away. Soriya, I know it sounds crazy,
Jimmy continued to say.
But you all were REALLY in my dream.
Now I’m not so sure it was a dream.
Excuse me, what is your name?
asked the lady who was leading the orientation.
She had medium brown skin with her hair braided on the side. All three teens looked up. Jimmy ma’am,
Jimmy said nervously.
You all are missing VERY pertinent information.
No more chit-chat.
Jimmy nodded his head and made sure to pay attention.
The teens were able to see their bed quarters, and they toured the entire school. Jimmy was in love with all the instruments one could learn how to play and master,
especially the piano.
Okay, it is free time,
the lady continued to say.
No wandering in the hallways.
A boy who was medium height, with olive skin, raised his hand. Why can’t we wander in the hallways?
he asked.
The lady scowled at the boy and ignored his question.
Are you hiding something?
laughed a girl.
Quiet!
the lady screamed.
Your parents have sent you here, because they believe you have musical talent.
But don’t think for a second, that you can’t leave as quickly as you arrived.
You must obey the rules.
This school has been here for a century. The founders, God rest their souls, have wished that this school changes the community, ensuring that students get to be around positivity.
Make you all hopefully, renowned pianists, violinists, cellists, amongst others.
What about the guitar?
murmured a boy.
The girl standing next to him laughed.
The lady looked sharply at the boy.
She then took a deep breath.
So, you all will follow the rules,
she continued to say. Pay attention.
And do your work.
Do you all understand?
All the teenagers shook their heads.
The boarding school used to accept younger children but the committee found there was a better success rate if the age group was 12 and up with 18 being the maximum.
Now let me introduce myself.
I am Mrs. Laddish, I am one of the violin teachers.
I have experience being a violinist, as I have won numerous competitions, have traveled, and I have been playing for twenty years.
Some of you will be my students.
So I HOPE you all take me seriously, because if you don’t....
You will not remain a student here at Windsart Boarding school.
Your free time begins NOW.
Okay, l’ll see you all in a little bit,
Angela said, while adjusting her shoes.
She wore sneakers with jeans and a checkered light green and blue shirt. For some reason, she didn’t have her required uniform on. However, she was really pretty, just like in Jimmy’s dreams. Where are you going?!
shouted Soriya.
I’m going to try to find out more about this
traveling thing,
Angela replied.
"I know it sounds crazy Soriya, but I am telling
