About this ebook

Adam, Where Are You? Come Out From Under Your Cover

Not all that appears to be good is of God unless you know the true spirit of its intent, its motive – its purpose.

Adam, Where are You? is a genesis question. It requires an honest answer in order to uncover the true spiritual condition of our soul.

God asks this question because the conflicts that we face are due to the lack of communication that causes division; and yet it is not with others, but rather within ourselves.

As long as we remain under our cover, we simply do not know and understand ourselves as well as we think. We cover ourselves because we don’t know and understand the heart  of God that is found under His covering.

Join in this journey of the soul to understand the answer to God’s question; to reveal our true intentions and to discover the truth of God’s loving intentions for us – His purpose.

Adam, Where Are You? - F. L. Rodriguez

    Author

    PREFACE

But the LORD God called to the man, Where are you? He answered, I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.

    [GENESIS 3:9–10]

WHEN GOD CALLED upon Adam He knew exactly where he was both spiritually and physically. The reason God asked Adam that question was for the purpose of Adam to ask himself where he was, because Adam lost himself within himself. To be afraid is the opposite of being in faith, and so therefore Adam had lost the God-kind of faith in himself and so has the rest of mankind.

What is the God-kind of faith (Mark 11:22)? It is a faith that was displayed in all of creation which begins with a hope for that which is good, and God’s goodness is His glory (Exod. 33:18–19).

Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

    —GENESIS 2:25

The truth is that Adam was naked before, and he was naked after the fall to sin, but his nakedness was no surprise to God. It was a shock to Adam because he didn’t know himself then as man doesn’t know himself now as God knows him.

The reason Adam didn’t know then that he was naked was because God kept him covered in the innocence of His divine glory. Man doesn’t know now that he is naked, for man keeps himself covered, hidden behind the guilt of his own glory. Man is blind to the way in which he sees himself because of the blindness in which he sees God.

Adam was a work in progress to begin with, and so are we. For when the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky, He then brought them to Adam to see what he would name them (Gen. 2:19). God tested Adam to see if he would name the animals in relationship to the approval of their Creator. It is like having a newborn whereby both parents sharing a mutual affection for what God has created would agree to the naming of the child.

As a result of doing well, God then gave Adam his heart’s desire, which was Eve, and yet the problems that we all face are the issues of our own heart’s desires (Prov. 4:23).

For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

    —MATTHEW 18:11, KJV

And what did man lose at the garden?

    • Divine Order, Divine Limits, Divine Purpose

    • God’s Idea—His Word

    • Honor and Trust

Throughout the course of this book I will continue to repeat the words divine order, divine limits, and divine purpose, as well as God’s idea.

The truths I hope to establish are for the sake of an honest assessment of our own individual truths based upon the only truth, which is found in the Word of God.

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

    —JOHN 4:24, EMPHASIS ADDED

    CHAPTER 1

    FIRST THINGS FIRST—SPIRIT

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

    [JOHN 4:24, EMPHASIS ADDED]

IN THE BEGINNING God created the heavens and the earth (Gen. 1:1). The heavens represent the spiritual or supernatural, and the earth represents the physical or the natural, also known as the carnal. God has revealed to us from the very beginning that the divine order of all things is that the spiritual will always supersede the physical. It is the way in which our entire universe was established according to Genesis 1:3–19.

We also see that God separated the various components of creation with limits to distinguish one part of creation and its purpose from another. For example, God separated the day from the night and the dry land from the sea. In God’s divine order He set spiritual and physical limits and specific purposes for each of His creations (Gen. 1:3–19). Now when God created man, as He did with all of creation, it was spiritual before it became physical.

So God created mankind in his own image . . .

    —GENESIS 1:27

We see here that God created mankind in or within His own image or imagination. It was God’s internal imagination of mankind that was first made into existence within God from an idea that He then conceived. The Word of God is known as the logos of God, which means idea. So what is an idea?

It is when a thought from the mind is presented through words that then formulate a vision or image from the heart, which then creates an anticipated expectation by the emotions, better known as hope. The divine order is the soul’s mind, heart, and emotion regarding an idea.

For example, one morning at a major corporation there was an announcement of an urgent matter regarding the future of the company. Evidently the organization was in need of a new concept to save money in order to avoid cutbacks and layoffs.

The next day a supervisor asked to meet with a lead employee to share an idea in order for the rest of the employees to come into an agreement with a way to satisfy the company’s pressing need.

The supervisor begins to present words of knowledge to the lead employee. The words spoken to the thought of the mind of the employee begin to paint a picture or image of what is being shared. The image that is being formulated by the words spoken is getting to the heart of the matter, known as understanding.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

    —PROVERBS 3:5, EMPHASIS ADDED

Once the heart’s image of understanding is created, in the spirit of agreement it then answers with an emotional response known as hope.

In the end, the vision or imagination of the supervisor, through his spoken words, and the vision or imagination of the employee, unites with the idea, resulting in working together to save the company money. This is known as the power of agreement based on knowledge and understanding.

Now how did the supervisor get the idea to begin with? Simply, it was a thought from his mind and the imagination from his heart that caused the supervisor to see the answer that first established the emotion of hope inside of himself.

For as he [man] thinketh in his heart, so is he. . .

    —PROVERBS 23:7, KJV, EMPHASIS ADDED

To think in our heart is to envision. In other words, as a man sees himself, so is he from the vision or image within his own heart.

God wants us to agree with His idea (logos—word) regarding all creation in relationship with Him. We understand God through envisioning or creating an image of His spoken word based upon the intentions of His heart. In other words, I see what you are saying means I understand what you are communicating to me and that gives me a heart of hope. It is the mind, to the heart, and then to the emotion whereby the Word of God establishes our hope within its divine order, divine limits, and divine purpose.

. . . in the image of God he created them.

    —GENESIS 1:27

God from in or within His imagination then created mankind, which is the result of the external, physical, or natural existence.

It is the force from the mind that comes in union with the power of the heart that creates this external existence. The force of the mind is the will, and the power of the heart is the emotion.

So how is this accomplished? The emotional heart of hope, which is anticipation, expectation, or desire, communicates to the will of the mind to exercise its force to choose to agree or to disagree with the idea. When the decision is made it communicates back to the emotions to execute its power to respond or react according to the will. This is known as the act of faith that exists in every human being.

For example, once the lead employee was in agreement or hopeful of the idea that was presented by the supervisor to save the company money, the supervisor then has the will to choose to then move on that desire, vision, or image of hope.

The supervisor then exercises his will to enforce the concept of his idea by devising the plan of action with his lead employee. Once a plan is in place, the supervisor instructs the employee to move on this hope, which is now the power of the emotion to take action in faith.

In other words, the supervisor believes in the hope and therefore responds accordingly. Hope is a vision or an image, while faith is an action based upon believing in that vision.

Now how did the supervisor operate his own will and his own emotion to first present his own idea to his employee by faith? Let’s go back to the beginning.

    HOPE

It was a thought from his mind and the imagination from his heart that caused the supervisor to see the answer that then created the emotion of hope in him.

    FAITH

Then the supervisor decided to exercise the force of his will from the mind by planning to communicate this idea to his lead employee. The supervisor then exercised the power of his emotions from his heart to approach (move) and to communicate (speak) his desire to his employee by faith believing that the employee will listen, understand, and agree with his idea (words).

Alternatively, the following story displays an idea of a hope that is then denied the action of faith.

    STORY: NO THANK YOU

The father says to his daughter on a Saturday afternoon, Would you like to go for a ride to go get some ice cream? His daughter heard ice cream; she can envision the ice cream, and she can feel that excitement begin to rise inside of her over the idea of having an ice cream as she contemplates this. She then says, No thank you, Daddy. I’m going over my friend’s house tonight to bake some brownies; how about tomorrow?

The father’s daughter displayed her patience by wisely exercising the force of her will over the power of her emotion, known as self-control.

So the divine order is Mind-Will and Heart-Emotion that communicates properly within its divine limits to fulfill its divine purpose regarding hope and faith.

    For instance:

    • The Mind communicates its thought to the Heart.

    • The Heart communicates its vision or image to the Emotion.

    • The Emotion communicates its desire to the Will (power of the Mind).

    • The Will communicates its choice to the Emotion (power of the Heart).

    • The Emotion then executes a response or reaction in word and/or in deed.

Note: The heart is strong, for the power of the emotion expresses or responds and reacts twice in hope and then in faith, while the will responds once in choice. But it is the will that is the force that unifies the thought, vision, and desire to become one. Force (will) is what gives power (emotion) its strength to respond or react.

    HOPE AND FAITH

Through faith we understand that the worlds [spiritual and physical] were framed by the word [idea] of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

    —HEBREWS 11:3, KJV

Therefore, the spiritual comes before the natural. What does the Word of God say that faith is?

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

    —HEBREWS 11:1, KJV

Things not seen or that are invisible to the natural eye are spiritual, but the substance or evidence is physical. It takes a spiritual force to bring about a natural response, reaction, or physical substance that is delivered through the heart of faith. But as we now know, it takes the spiritual impregnation of a heart of hope to first create the desire for it to come to pass according to God’s divine order, divine limits, and divine purpose. The heart is like a womb that conceives ideas and images or imagination (spirit) that then gives birth to concepts, inventions, and results (physical).

For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

    —MARK 11:23, KJV

The word whosoever has the same English translation in John 3:16 regarding salvation for all of mankind. Hope and faith are in all men, but the question is, is it the God-kind of faith that manifests God’s goodness, which is His glory that we are putting our hopes in?

    SPIRIT

So what is a spirit? A spirit is an invisible being that is a force of life, energy, and power. The embodiment of such a being can be referred to synonymously as our living soul (mind, heart, emotion). Why? The thoughts of the mind, the feelings of the emotions, and the intentions of the heart are all invisible forces of life, energy, and power that cannot be seen with the natural eye but are acknowledged and proven to be quite real of their supernatural existence by any human being. Our souls were made from the very breath of the Spirit of God (Gen. 1:7).

Now God is a Spirit that is made up of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and each of them have their divine order, divine limits, and divine purposes as well as the mind, heart, and emotion. They are three that make up one like we are three in one in our soul or person.

    For instance:

At that time Jesus said, I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.

    —MATTHEW 11:25

Jesus refers to God as Father who is Lord of heaven and earth. In other words, God is being referred to as the headship or leadership that is all knowing (for example, like the supervisor).

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

    —JOHN 1:1–3

As we know from creation, it was the idea or logos (Word), better known as Jesus, from the vision or image of the heart through whom all things were made (for example, like the lead employee who understood the vision). God the Father (mind) said to Jesus (heart) "Let us make mankind in
