I Shall Not Die but Live - Zurett N. Herndon

    In the Beginning

In the beginning, God had a plan for mankind; this is why He made man in his likeness and image and his attributes. He made man with the creative ability to speak things into existence just as He has. He said, Let us make man in our likeness and image.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:26)

From the beginning, God desired fellowship with mankind among all His creation. It was on the six day of God’s creation that man was created in his likeness and image. They communicated every day in the cool of the day.

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7)

God thought that it was not good for man to be alone, so He created a help me for man.

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof. (Genesis 2:21)

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man. (Genesis 2:23)

So from the beginning, God has always desired fellowship with his creation. We were created to be His prize trophy of all eternity. Mankind, God’s creation, fell from His original intent, and sin separated man from God. But God was not with a plan to redeem man back to Him in fellowship. The plan of redemption was immediately implemented in this world.

As the world evolved and populated so did sin. A temporary plan was implement for our sins to be covered, and it was through animal sacrifice of blood. This was a type of ritual and shadow of what was to come.

For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. (Hebrews 10:4)

    Who Is He

To understand who our creator is in name and essence of character, let’s look at some Hebrew names that really depict His nature and character in a few forms.

He is the most high God; there is none higher than He—El-Elyon.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1)

He is the Lord God of all creation, creator of heaven and earth—Elohim.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)

He is a covenant making God, the almighty all sufficient one—El Shaddai.

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? (Genesis 17:1–2, 17)

He appeared in a flaming bush on the backside of the desert to Moses when he was tending his father-in-law’s sheep as the great I am. So let’s look at a few forms of
