About this ebook

Broken Covenants

Broken Covenants seeks to highlight the love of God for man and the things the Lord had been doing to bring man back into fellowship with Him since mankind fell from grace because of sin. Sin has corrupted the entire world, and it started when Adam and Eve were deceived by Satan in the garden of Eden. Satan had since that time gained control over the earth from Adam whom God had given this charge. Everything being corrupted by sin, including man, faces the curse of death.

Satan having taken control of the earth had access to heaven where he was a continuous accuser of man before God. God is determined to destroy this corrupted earth and Satan with it to get rid of sin altogether, but He is also determined to restore man and save man from His wrath and the destruction to come.

God sent a flood to destroy sinful man from the earth, but as man multiplied again in the earth, so did sin. The Lord then chose a people of Israel to be His chosen people. He blessed and prospered them to make the rest of the world be jealous of the God of Israel that they would forsake their gods and seek after the God of Israel. Israel, however, turned to the gods of these nations instead that God had to reject His people.

God then sent His own Son Who never sinned, and therefore, death had no control over Him. Having conquered sin and death, Jesus has taken back control of the earth, and the devil is cast out of heaven and have no more access to heaven. Man is therefore restored, but he had to trust in Jesus and what He has done to be redeemed back to God. This is the way of salvation, and God now has accomplished that which was His desire since Adam.

    Acknowledgment

Iam very grateful to those persons who gave of themselves and of their time to assist me in accomplishing the task of completing this work. I owe much gratitude to the Lord, Who, through the Holy Spirit, inspired me and guided my thoughts in the achievement of this accomplishment.

I also want to truly show my appreciation to Devon Groce, who took time to review my writing and was always a source of great encouragement and assistance, someone I could always rely on, day or night. My sincere gratitude also to Delrine Thomas-Stewart, who was ever so enthusiastic and a willing participant whenever I called upon her.

The Holy Scriptures have been my main source, and references drawn from the King James Version are labeled KJV, from the New English Translation are labeled NET, and from the New International Version are labeled NIV. The book entitled The Last 4 Visions of Daniel written by Thomas A. Daniels, a dear friend, was also a source of my inspiration.

    Introduction

The Holy Scriptures are given to man by the inspiration of God for reproof, for doctrine, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. In them is life and the knowledge of God Who fashioned all things in the heavens and the earth. Without the scriptures, we would have no knowledge of the origin of man or of this world in which we live. The scriptures show us how our Maker desires us to live and how to please Him as man had become sinful and strayed from God. We know that the scriptures are faithful and true because it justifies itself through prophecies fulfilled through proven histories, and nothing that was declared in scripture had failed.

There are prophecies that are yet to be fulfilled, and we, therefore, can trust that they too will come to pass. The scriptures declare that God will destroy this sinful world and make it new and will also restore man to sinlessness and everlasting life, and the Christians patiently await that prophecy too to be fulfilled.

Broken Covenant is designed to give a better understanding of the love of God, His faithfulness and long-suffering toward men, and the things that God has done and is doing to bring man back into fellowship with Him. All this, because man had sinned and was cut off from God because the Almighty, the Holy God, detest every form of sin and had put a curse of death on the soul that sinned. All humanity fell under the curse of death because Adam, the first man, through whom all generations exist, had sinned.

God, through His love for man, is determined to do everything necessary to save man from the curse of death and to give humanity eternal life wherein man can behold the face of his God and not die. His faithfulness is made manifest throughout the life of the earth; God has been seeking that man lives righteously, and He never failed to seek to draw man back to Him. He has been long-suffering from the creation of the world even until now, and He will not let up until all is accomplished and man is saved from death despite the wickedness and sinful state of man who is ever rebellious against his God.

The Lord, in His effort to give life again to man, called Abraham, covenanted with him that, through him, the Lord would create a people of righteousness. A great nation, Israel, was created by God through Abraham, but they continually broke God’s covenant until God finally gave up on Israel and made a new covenant with a new people, a new Israel. The Lord gave His people a new kingdom, the kingdom of heaven, which is a spiritual kingdom, having conquered the devil called Satan through Christ Jesus Who, though He became flesh as man, never sinned, and therefore, the curse of death is broken. If man believes in Jesus and accepts the gift of life through his righteousness, he will be saved from death and have eternal life when Jesus shall come again to claim His bride, the true church.

Broken Covenant also helps to bring understanding to some difficult-to-understand prophecies and clarity to some usually misinterpreted scriptures. It brought into focus the purpose of scriptures, the Old and New Testaments as necessary for the knowledge and understanding of the way of salvation to humanity.

This book is designed to assist all persons to understand the ways of God and His desires for us and to help the Christian better understand the precepts of scriptures and also to help persons who ponder Christianity to be encouraged to read the scriptures and better understand it when they do.

    In the Beginning

    God

Before the earth was formed or the mountains came into existence, and before there ever was a plant in a field or fishes in the sea or there was even a man in the earth, there was God! There was no one before Him, there is no one higher, and there is no one greater than Him. He was before all things, and in Him, all things consist. He is the beginning, and He is the ending. He is everlasting. In all things, He is preeminent.

All things were created by God, the heavens, the stars, the entire universe, including all terrestrial and celestial bodies, and everything that is in them were created by Him. There is nothing that is made that was not made by Him—the sun, the moon, the earth, and everything that is in them. God created all living things, animals on the land, trees in the field, birds of the air, and every living creature in the sea. God made man in His own image, and He named the first man He made Adam.

God gave Adam dominion over all the earth, and everything on the earth was subjected to him. God brought all the animals of the field and the birds of the air to Adam, and he gave each of them names. God placed Adam in a garden that He created for him and gave him a female companion created with a rib from the side of Adam, and Adam called her woman. When the Lord examined His creation, He declared that it was very good as it was pleasing in His sight.

And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31 KJV)

In six days, God created all things, the heavens, the earth, and everything in them, including man, and He then rested on the seventh day and blessed it.

The Lord instructed Adam that all the trees that are in the garden were good for food, and he could eat freely of their fruits. However, the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which is in the midst of the garden, he should not touch nor eat the fruit of it because the day that he should eat the fruit of it, he will surely die. Man was obedient to his maker, and he had fellowship with his God and beheld Him face-to-face, and they had sweet communion with each other as there was no unrighteousness in him, and he did not know evil.

And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:15–17 KJV)

The Lord would come down from His holy habitation in heaven to the garden in the cool of the day and would talk with Adam and his companion, the woman whom God gave Adam to be his wife, face-to-face as a father would to his children.

    Evil

However, in the realms of heaven, in the habitation of God where His angels served Him in holiness, iniquity was found in one of His chief angels called Lucifer. Therefore, Lucifer was thrown out of heaven down to the earth because no sin could dwell in the holy habitation of God. However, the earth was not affected by sin as it had no power on the earth. Lucifer, called Satan, was no different from the beast of the field that came under the control of Adam. The devil called Satan was subjected to the leadership of Adam, whom God had put in charge of the earth until Adam gave up his rulership and dominion to the devil. The devil deceived Eve, the woman who then encouraged her husband, and they, in disobedience to the command of God, ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (Genesis 3:1–5 KJV)

Because they had done this, their eyes were opened; they now have knowledge not only of good but also of evil. So both Adam and Eve, his wife, were beguiled by the serpent and were then subjected to death as God had promised, ye shall surely die.

Adam and his wife, Eve, being beguiled by the devil in disobedience to the instructions of God, were both corrupted by sin, and unrighteousness dwelled in them. Evil cannot dwell in the presence of God, and therefore, the relationship that they had with God was broken because of disobedience. God is holy, and holiness is His covering, His habitation is holy, and anything in which evil dwells must be cut off from Him. Adam could therefore no longer see God’s face because they disobeyed His commands that they should not eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The Lord had them removed from the garden, from their beautiful habitation, to prevent them from eating of the tree of life, which gives eternal life and which was also in the garden. If they had eaten of this tree in their sinful state, man would live eternally in sin; then, the earth and man would be corrupted by sin forever, and God could not allow this to happen.

So man became cursed with death as the Lord had declared to Adam that if they eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they would surely die. The earth was also cursed because of Adam’s disobedience, and there was nothing in it that was not affected by this sin problem. A process of degeneration started to affect the entire earth and everything that is in it. Man and beasts, creeping things, fowl of the air and fish of the seas, and everything that had life in it were now subjected to death. From then, every living thing was living a shorter life span as time progressed and from one generation to the next. The well-nourished and flourishing earth began to grow thistles and thorns, and wildernesses started to develop. Man now had to labor for his meat with his strength and sweat in order to live as the earth was cursed because of the sins of Adam.

And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife,
