Norman B. Mitchell

Norman B. Mitchell began teaching at Kings County Christian School in 1989 after a dramatic born-again experience. He asked the Lord to tell him what to do, and the Holy Spirit led him to 2 Corinthians 5:16–17. As an ambassador of Christ, he was to be a messenger of reconciliation and declare the forgiveness of sin through Christ Jesus. He hopes 3 in 1—A Personal New Testament is an extension of his ministry to speak prophetically and nurture the vision of every Christian who reads it.

Also, I want to thank the two families who prayed for my salvation.

    The Purpose of Salvation Explained:

³⁰ And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; ³¹ but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. (John 20 NJKV)

May you grow in knowledge, understanding, and wisdom through revelation, meaning, and application of God’s word.

Salvation Explained outlines how God provided a way for mankind to be saved. Beginning with Adam, continuing throughout the Old Testament, and concluding with Revelation, this book explains how the believer is saved, is being saved, and will be saved. God Has Provided the Way of salvation.

Where possible, the first-person singular has been used instead of using the pronouns you or your. The author sometimes has rephrased the concept to read I or we or my, thus giving the reader an opportunity to make a personal confession of Biblical truth.

For example, it is written in Proverbs 3 NASB,

⁵ Trust in the Lord with all your heart

Making this personal, the reader would say:

I trust in the LORD with all my heart.

Quotes from Scripture have also been used throughout this book.

All quotes in this book are italicized with bold fonts, and some verses are numbered.

Words which are just in bold fonts are for emphases; they are not quotes.

Christians love God, their neighbor, and other Christians as God loves us.

    Introduction

God Has Provided the Way His Way Is by Faith

In the beginning, God provided the Way of Salvation. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, and from the dust of the earth He created a man, Adam. From the rib of Adam, He created a woman, who was later named Eve because, except for Adam, she is the mother of all the living.

²⁶ Then God said, Let Us make mankind in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the livestock and over all the earth, and over every crawling thing that crawls on the earth. ²⁷ So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. ²⁸ God blessed them; and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth. (Genesis 1 NASB)

In the beginning, Adam and his wife were saved because they began life with a personal relationship with Almighty God. God walked and talked with them in the Garden of Eden which He had made for them.

They could eat from any tree in the garden except for one. He commanded Adam not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil because if he did, on that day he would surely die. This was God’s First Covenant with man.

God provide the Way for Adam and the women and all their off spring to live forever. Instead, they became their own god, followed their own way, and thus, lost their personal relationship with God.

God had given man dominion over the earth and everything in and on the earth, but because of Adam’s sin, dominion was lost and given to Satan. God did prophesy the coming of a Savior and the restoration of a right relationship between God and mankind. God told Satan that, He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise Him on the heel. (Genesis 3:15b NASB)

The coming of the Savior, Jesus Christ, was foretold. Jesus would bruise Satan’s headship over mankind, and Satan would bruise the heal of Jesus with a spike while Jesus was on the cross.

Satan, in the form of a serpent, deceived the woman, and she ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. She believed the lies of Satan and disobeyed God. Tempted by lust of the eye, lust of the flesh, and pride of life, she ate of the forbidden fruit and so did Adam.

²² Then the Lord God said, Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out with his hand, and take fruit also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever

²³ therefore the Lord God sent him out of the Garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. ²⁴ So He drove the man out; and at the east of the Garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life. (Genesis 3 NASB)

Although the LORD provided the Way, and the Way was by faith, Adam and the woman did not add faith to the Good News they heard; and they did not enter God’s rest. The promise of eternal life was lost. A personal relationship, friendship, fellowship, and trust between God and Adam (man), was lost.

    A New Way of Salvation

    A New Beginning

Approximately 1,600 years after the creation of Adam, we read, ⁵ Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of mankind was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. ⁶ So the Lord was sorry that He had made mankind on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. ⁷ Then the Lord said, I will wipe out mankind whom I have created from the face of the land; mankind, and animals as well, and crawling things, and the birds of the sky. For I am sorry that I have made them. ⁸ But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. (Genesis 6)

The LORD God told Noah to build an ark. Even though it had not rained before, He would send rain upon the earth to destroy the earth with a flood. Then the Lord said to Noah, "Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this generation.

٢ You shall take with you seven pairs of every clean animal, a male and his female; and two of the animals that are not clean, a male and his female; ٣ also of the birds of the sky, seven pairs, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth. ٤ For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights; and I will wipe out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made." ٥ So Noah acted in accordance with everything that the Lord had commanded him.

⁶ Now Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of water came upon the earth. ٧ Then Noah and his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark because of the waters of the flood. (Genesis ٧)

It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. After 150 days the waters on the earth began to dry up.

    ⁸ Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, ٩ "Now behold, I Myself am establishing My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you;

١٠ and with every living creature that is with you: the birds, the livestock, and every animal of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, every animal of the earth. ١١ I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be eliminated by the waters of a flood, nor shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth. ١٢ God said, This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations; ١٣ I have set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall serve as a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. (Genesis 9)

Noah’s descendants did not add faith to the Good News (the Covenant) that the LORD established with them through Noah. Approximately 150 years after the flood, some of the descendants of Ham, Noah’s son, began to build a Tower to make a name for themselves.

Now all the earth used the same language and the same words. ² And it came about, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. ³ Then they said to one another, Come, let’s make bricks and fire them thoroughly. And they used brick
