    The moon was shining bright, a sweet wind was blowing, and a few nightingales were singing in the trees. It was a sweet night to be out on a romantic walk, a bottle of red wine in hand, talking poetry with your beloved.

    Instead, I was digging my own grave.

    The movies lie to you. Digging a grave is hard work. Several hours’ work, I’d say. With at least two or three people.

    Sweat crawled down my shirt, like irritating ants, but I couldn’t wipe it because if I stopped digging, my captors would hit me with the butt of their rifles.

    I don’t know how I long I worked. It certainly felt like hours. And all I had to show for it was a shallow grave not deep enough to bury a bunny rabbit.

    But it was good enough for my captors. That’s enough, they said.

    Let me say it one more time, I started to speak. You are making a mistake.

    They pointed the shotgun at my face and shot me point blank.
