It Was Windy the Day My Wife Died - Shantnu Tiwari
1
It was windy that day. As windy as the day my wife had died.
And it was cloudy too. The same as that day.
I struggled to keep my hoodie on my head. If Debi had been alive, she would have smiled and helped me. As it was, she wasn’t.
The woolen hat I wore under the hoodie, while soft and snug, was not warm enough to keep the cold out, which is why I needed to keep tugging at the hood of my jacket.
It had been raining lightly, enough so that there were puddles all around. My shoes and socks were already wet and I was still half an hour’s walk from home.
The streets were empty; no one wanted to shop on a rainy Sunday evening. Most of the shops were closed, except for the Indian takeaway (empty) and the betting shop (full). It said a lot that people didn’t mind walking ten minutes in the rain
