How to Forgive in 10 Seconds or Less - DAWN GENTRY WASHINGTON

    Introduction

    FORGIVE.

Does anyone really know what that word is? I don't think it can be explained in just a few words, do you?

That's why we believe we have so much trouble doing it. Because we really don't know what it means. You can't see it. You can't touch it. It's invisible. Abstract.

Because it's not easy to pin-point what the word means or how it's defined, it seems like the command to do it is tricky to obey. Forgive anyone? Of anything?

    Even Mr. Cheater?

    Ms. Sabotager?

    The abuser and betrayer?

    The liar?

You probably have said, I can't do that. And if you're reading this, you are probably looking for some help right about now. You may be in severe pain and you want to obey.

But you need help understanding it.

    You need help doing it.

You're not by yourself. I'm raising my hand, too!

But, I'm going to try to help you understand it a little better (as I try to help myself understand it a bit better), and I'm going to show you how I believe you can forgive anyone in any situation in ten seconds or less.

You are commanded to set everyone free from any obligation to apologize to you; set them free from the consequences of their guilt; to stop being angry or resentful towards the person; and although they are guilty, to pronounce them not guilty.

The word forgive indicates in its prefix 'for' that it is something that could be done beforehand. So, there's something you have to do before any of the principles I’m going to give you will work.

Before you are confronted with acting in response to some kind of foolishness, there is a prerequisite to the information I'm going to give you. But I'll explain that to you later.   Meanwhile, you are commanded to forgive as He forgives.

Chapter 1. Forgive As He Forgives...

    LET'S FACE IT.

You have been, or you are going to be hurt. Yesterday. Today. Or tomorrow.

Sooner or later, you will be

    Insulted.

    Betrayed.

    Talked about.

    Lied on.
